CoCo's English Debut Submitted on: 2009-06-24 |
|
CoCo Lee's debut English is a solid, pleasant album. This album was created to be a crossover album, people know this. Dhe did not get the choice to write any of the songs for this project. She could only approve songs written for her by professional songwriters. This plus a somewhat overly polished Urban/Dance-pop sound takes away some of CoCo's shine. Still, she did a very good job with the material given to work with.
Here is my rating of each track.
1. "Do You Want My Love" 5/5
2. "Just No Other Way " 4/5
3. "Can't Get Over" feat. Kelly Price 5/5
4. "Did You Ever Love Me" 5/5
5. "Before I Fall In Love" 5/5
6. "Wherever You Go" 5/5
7. "I Will Be Your Friend" 4/5
8. "All Tied Up In You" 4/5
9. "Don't You Want My Love" 4/5
10. "Crazy Ridiculous" 3.5/5
11. "Can We Talk About It" 4.5/5
The majority of the album play nicely. However, it loses some steam with the less than thrilling "Crazy Ridiculous." The album rebounds with the closing track, "Can We Talk About It." Overall, this album would have been fabulous instead of merely good had CoCo been able to contribute her own lyrics to the songs. Some thicker, lusher production would have also aided in making the album richer in its texture. See my review for her fabulous sophomore English album, "Exposed." I hope my review is of help to you. |

Coco's debut in the USA! (Back in 2000) Submitted on: 2009-01-13 |

| I remember this album when I was in the 7th grade. I was skeptical of purchasing this album. I was listening to my other CDs and I did not purchase it until I was in the 9th grade. On this album, she combined the R&B feel with the pop music of Taiwan. This album is a vibrant, pulsating collection that reveals a special voice of not only power but also range and emotion. Whether it was the ballads or dancefloor songs, Coco commanded my attention with her tone, taste, and drive. She really shined on this album. She sang from the heart with nothing but soul on this album. This album underperformed. This album should have been promoted more. |

| coco lee has a beautiful voice. too bad these songs stink. do you want my love is kind of catchy. but the rest just lacks something. this cdis too much like jessica simpson or chritina agulara, (two artists i would say coco is much better than). here is a tip from me to you: get exposed. its much better. |

Unbelievably catchy pop album! Submitted on: 2006-06-26 |

| A week before NSYNC's No Strings Attached came out in 2000, I bought this CoCo Lee album after getting so tired of it being slaughtered in music album reviews. People and Rolling Stone magazines didn't like it either in their reviews. They called it mediocre pop. I think otherwise--much of this album is fun, unbelievably catchy pop! I liked her duet with Kelly Price, where they can sure be SAAANGING it on that song! She went with some top producers in Ric Wake, Dane Deviller, Sean Hosein and others here. Fortunately, the Deviller/Hosein songs for Coco here are far better than the limp ballad crap they did for 98 Degrees. The songs get hooked in your head and never let go on this album--it's just loaded with pop hooks, rhythms and melodies from the different producers she went to. Sometimes, a few lyrics are cliched. I liked that Coco even wrote several songs on here too--you hear what coming from her in the songs. Her voice is good, reminiscent of Mariah Carey from her popular debut with the vocal acrobatics, but a little smoothed out. For her first US debut after being a major star in her native China, this is quite a good effort from a very talented singer. |

I LOVE HER VOICE!!! The songs aren't that great. Submitted on: 2006-04-07 |

I bought this album just because I wanted to hear a new artist. I saw the ad in a magazine and went and bought it.
She has a truly amazing voice but the producing and most of the songs aren't very good. It's best to program you CD player with certain tracks or put the tracks on your MP3 player.
Tracks Opinion
1. Do You Want My Love boring.
2.Just No Other Way boring
3. Can't get over you Typical, Dull, and whiney
4. Did you really love me? Stupid
5. Before I Fall In Love Typical Pop Ballad but it's pretty.
6. Wherever You Go BAD WRITING!!
7. I will Be Your Friend I really like this one. It's sweet.
8. All Tied Up Very lovely vocals. Good Song
9. Don't You want my love? It's OK. Her voice doesn't go with the song.
10. Crazy Ridiculous Title Explains. This is very bad! Skip at all cost to your love of music!!
11. Can We Talk About It? Nice.
All in all I don't think that this CD is worth your time and money. I heard her Chinese CD's are better so I plan on buying those.
She has an amazing voice and is very very talented more than Britney and Christina it's just the production and promotion behind her is very bad.
