Fear - 'The Record' (Slash) Submitted on: 2008-10-05 |

| Review no. 55. Originally unleashed in 1982, this was Fear's first of {looks like} five records. Never could figure out what exactly their 'cult following' ever saw in this L.A. hardcore punk band. As for I remember when every now and again Fear would play to a crowd of maybe 200 or so in some dive in my home town. I never saw them. A couple of these tracks I thought were okay include "Let's Have A War", the slamming "Gimme Some Action", "We Destroy The Family" and "No More Nothing". Looks like vocalist Lee Ving is the sole original / constant member in Fear. Might pull in fans of Minor Threat, the Germs, Agent Orange and Circle Jerks but DO keep in mind those bands do the job better. |

| This record is so great. I really can't think of any of my friends that don't like this. Only one song is a stinker "Getting The Brush". If you don't own this album, buy it today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

A Classic! Submitted on: 2008-06-13 |

| I agree with the previous reviewers that this record has no redeeming social value whatsoever but, at the same time, it is one of the greatest punk records ever made. The only downside for me is that, for some reason, the sucky recording and production value of the CD has sapped the songs of most of their energy and power. If you want to hear the songs the way they were intended, watch the documentary film, Decline of Western Civilization, and hear the music amid the mayham and chaos of the Fear show. That's the sound the Fear CD should've tried to capture. Nevertheless, "The Record" is still a great record and a classic of the early L.A. punk scene. The 45-second Christmas tune at the end is reason enough to buy "The Record". |

| This album and band are incredible. I have been a fan of Fear ever since i heard this album and every song on this album (with the exception of Getting The Brush)is a spit in your eye, kick you in the teeth, punk rock masterpiece. I would definitely rate this as one of my top three favorite hardcore albums of all time. |
