100% Relatable Submitted on: 2009-07-28 |

| It's really awesome how these songs that my mother grew up with are still relevant. Any teenage girl can still sing along to Lesley Gore's gorgeous voice and relate to the lyrics. In fact, I would say that Lesley Gore was my mom's generation's Taylor Swift. Songs about having crushes on the taken guy, presevering through cruddy relationships, and the high you get from falling in love... Sound familiar? My favorite songs on this CD were She's a Fool, Maybe I Know, and, of course, It's My Party. It's a classic. Lesley Gore is a classic. |

i really respect the sound she created with help of quincey jones in early part of her career.
more going on here than meets the ear initially.
with all the recent covers, 'maybe i know' has survived to become a sleeper hit of the mid-sixties. |

60's babe............... Submitted on: 2009-02-26 |

| Leslie Gore was one of the best singers during my 60's growing up years. Her voice was rich and heartfelt. I would crank up my old box record player and put on her 45. I especially loved That's the Way Boys Are and even though I wasn't allowed a boyfriend I still had visions of what it would be like to even experience a broken teen heart over a boy. She gave me that vision and if I felt the tears coming, it wasn't because of my father's words, but hers. She and others like her were my teen idols and listening to their songs during those sad and bad childhood years in my father's house reminded me that I was just a teen after all and should be allowed to feel and act like one. Listening to her songs gave me those moments of peace and I thank her again for those 'just for me' memories. For me this CD deserves 8 Stars!!! |

I Really Liked The Beat And It Was Fun To Dance To Submitted on: 2008-09-05 |

If you are old enough to recall that statement as I do which was a recurring record appraisal on Dick Clark's American Bandstand coming from Philadelphia first then besides having the aches and pains that I do, you will remember Leslie Gore as a first rate recording artist. You and I knew Leslie Gore music by heart and I swear I still listen to a downloaded play list of selections of Leslie singing, Maybe I Know, Judy's Turn To Cry, It's My Party and You Don't Own Me, all included on this CD referenced. My favorite Leslie Gore song is Maybe I Know which clearly exhibits her amazing vocal ability to carry that beat almost as if it was catapulted from a cannon. Leslie could run with that beat and stay with it. By the way we both grew up in the City of New York so both of us walk the walk and I am enamored of all the fabulous performers from the City because they all started out as street wise hometown favorites. Leslie was also independent and that was way ahead of her time. Although the songs, like her contemporary, Gary Lewis were simplistic and mostly teen simpatico, young or old, I am recommending a big buy rating for this Leslie Gore CD. Even my maturity will never deter me from listening to a Leslie Gore track,-The beat goes on.
