Dark power metal! Submitted on: 2009-08-11 |

This album here is my very first experience of power metal and it guided me to the real kinda metal. I was hooked on this album here with songs like: mr torture, if i could fly, and the dark ride.
All I can say is that because of this one album it saved me from the taste of false metal of today I used to have and guided me into alot of european metal.
If your new to helloween then start here or their other earlier albums too.
Stay metal! |

As a true fan of helloween this was my first album I got and I mean this is exactly how I got into really good taste metal and left my other taste in which I call imitation metal like korn and linkin park which are recommended for highschool junkies. This album has truly blown me away, it's pure dark fast superb and pure melodic metal with great guitar hooks and solos with a little keyboards on 1 song and lets not forget the last song on this album which was the true song that will blow you away. This was the greatist last album with the greatist members roland grapow and uli kusch who departed helloween and who now made another great band masterplan And they are truly missed. Every song on here was awesome and andreas deris's voice suites perfectly with these great songs and this great album. All because of this one album I continued to buy most of helloweens albums and other bands and before you know it my taste in music changed to power metal and classic rock such as BLIND GUARDIAN/ GAMMA RAY/SONATA ARCTICA/AVANTASIA/MASTERPLAN/PINK CREAM 69/CHILDREN OF BODOM/RAINBOW/STRATOVARIOUS/Y. MALMSTEEN and the list goes on and I never stopped collecting this stuff thanks to this one album.
If your quite new to helloween then this is the perfect place to start and if your new to power metal then pick up some of the bands I listed above and give em a good spin.
STAY METAL! |

I Love This Album Submitted on: 2008-01-23 |

I usually don't go beserk over an album, and when I heard that this album was amazing, I was a bit hesitant about it, I mean, I had already heard the song Mr. Torture, and I thought it was good, but I didn't know about the rest of the album. After a my first listen, I thought it was pretty good (keep in mind I was only half-listening, and was actually focusing on something else). The second time I listened to it, song after song caught my attention.
Beyond The Portal - It's an intro track, nothing special, but I bet it would be somewhat useful as a halloween sound effect, you know?
Mr. Torture - A good song, easily recognizable intro and is generally a very good song.
All Over The Nations - A faster paced power metal song. Pretty good.
Escalation 666 - A popular song that sounds like it comes out of a soundtrack. Quite unique in that sense.
Mirror Mirror - I love this song. It's one of the darker ones vocally, and I like it.
If I Could Fly - Different from all the others with it's piano parts, I didn't like it initially, but it grew after about 2-3 listens. One of those ones you come to appreciate after you've had your fill of the 'heavier' tracks on the album.
Salvation - A song so catchy, it's unbelievable. I simply cannot describe how much this song will be stuck in your head.
The Departed (Sun Is Going Down) - Maybe least popular song on the album - MAYBE. Anyway, it's nothing special, but it has an AMAZING chant in it (the "Sun Is Going Down" part simply blew me away when I find heard it).
I Live For Your Pain - Very dark, but absolutely awesome. Great song in general, and a great chorus and a nice heavy bass intro.
We Damn The Night - A bit of a grower, but a good song. A bit catchy too.
Immortal - A good song. Kind of peaceful in a weird sense.
The Dark Ride - I was turned off by the length of this song originally, but I later came to appreciate it as one of the better "epic" songs I've heard because it: 1) isn't THAT long 2) Is a good song 3) Has a well done transition between the heavier beginning-middle part to the slower, more peaceful end. The beginning reminds me of a roller coaster, while the end is a nice slow winding down session.
Trust me when I say it isn't often I like an album this much. |

Excellent album, what a way to kick off the new Millenium Submitted on: 2007-02-16 |

This album is probably the strongest of the current line-up in Helloween. This album from start to finish is a bit heavier than all previous albums. Mr. Torture is a nice little nod to the tounge and cheek history of Helloween, but then the album rips through a great mix of power metal/dark metal songs unparalleled in other helloween albums. A natural evolution to catch up to the times. There is almost more of a concept here than on the "Keepers 3" Album. Highlights for me are Escilation 666, Mirror Mirror, and the instant classic single "If I could Fly", the obvious first single from this album, and excellent choice by the band, great melodyIf you have seen the video for "If I Could Fly" well done also, look around for that. The title track is a perfect way to end the album with a nice "epic" 9 minute song that helloween is known for. This was a great way for helloween to thrust themselves back into the metal scene. Helloween fans need this album, new fans should embrace this also. Buy this album.
Of note, there were several versions of this album put out. There is the US 12 track version. Also a 13 track japanese version with "Madness of The Crowds" as a bonus track (available on Just a Little Sign single also from Rabbit Don't Come EASY). There is a newer US 12 track version that comes with the "If I could Fly" single which features Deliver Us from Temptation and If I could Fly extended. Finally, there is the version I own which came as "The Dark Box"- a 12 track CD, neck band/lanyard, sticker, 5 postcards featuring the band members, mouse pad, and a Zippo type refillable lighter in a nice box. Any version you purchase, well worth the deal. This is a must have helloween album. |
