Oppressor - 'Solstice Of Oppression' (Red Light)
Submitted on: 2005-08-03
'Solstice...' is the Chicago death metal band's first out of four CD's.The vocals here are nearly incomprehensible. Some decent riffs on this disc,I'll give them that much.Line-up:Tim King-bass&vocals,Adam Zadel-guitar,Jim Stopper-guitar and Tom Schofield-drums.Sorry,not for me.Might possibly appeal to some fans,of say Cannibal Corpse,Obituary,Coven and Rigor Mortis.
intense technical death metal; but also forgettable

This is the first of three offerings of a VERY technical band from Chicago, playing solid death metal not as brutal as Suffocation, but staggering nonetheless. Thier later albums are more polished in terms of production, songwriting, and clear guitar parts and solos; but this is, as mentioned, thier freshman effort. It is solid, good death metal that leads to thier other albums, but I would not sugguest getting this one first. I personally think AGONY is thier best work, with SOLSTICE OF OPPRESSION coming in second, but others might think this rating is backwards, and that this band just got better. Ther reason I don't like their third album as much is while it got a bit more flashy with the fast sweep-arpeggio attack that gives them a signature sound, these are few and far between, and repeated with no variation. To say it another way, the third album is more predictable and commonplace.

Back to this one. It's good. On on the other hand, I listened to it maybe three times since I picked it up used, and each time I did listen to it I found it immensely forgettable but not at all bad or annoying or even all that boring...just forgettable. Get the other two albums first.
