This CD destroys.... Submitted on: 2006-06-26 |

I'm a huge FaceDown fan. The Twisted Rule the Wicked is a masterpiece, and one of the best CD's in my 500 CD collection. I always wanted to get Minefield, but as an import, the $30 price was too much. Finally, I gave in...and I am not disappointed!!
FaceDown is at their best here. They do have a resemblence to Machinehead, but twice as heavy and aggresive. The guitar sounds are razor sharp, and the riffs are never ending. It really is creative riff after creative catchy riff with a brutal edge. I love the vocals too...they don't follow trends and use raspy vox, but you can clearly understand the singer.
They also have a pinch of industrial sampling interspersed throughout the CD which gives it a haunting serious serial killer tone. This CD just makes you want to break stuff. One of the best songs introduced operatic female elements with slow guitar work...they really are a band that takes their job seriously. They are art...not simply blastbeats or speedy thrash.
This is as brutal and creative as thrash gets. |

A Blistering Debut!!!!! Submitted on: 2005-01-13 |

Face down are so overlooked, their first album compared to Machinehead (often too compared) was an excellent piece of work, listening to it now I hear more than Machinehead. Face Down had a slight death metal edge to them making them heavier (and better in my opinion) than Machine Head.
I can also hear a dash of Entombed in there and even a tad of Fear Factory. The more you listen to them the more individual they are.
Their second album `The Twisted Rule the Wicked' was also very good but I do think that `Mindfield' was the bomb! Prepare for Face Down's return this year! Signed to the Swedish Label Black Lodge Records they are back and stronger than ever!!!!!

Great Beginnings Submitted on: 2002-10-01 |

| This album is what helped get this band going and lead to their eventual masterpiece "The Twisted Rule The Wicked". Their vocalist also went on to do vocals for The Haunted, which must speak very highly of his vocal talents considering that The Haunted is the direct descendant of At The Gates, one of the greatest melodic death metal bands in the history of the genre. Marco Aro's vocals are amazing on this album, and the band also mixes it up enough to provide a lot of variety to prevent any kind of repetitious sound. I very highly recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of aggro-thrash, especially Machine Head's first couple of albums. Check this out, you won't be sorry. |

Face Down bring something new to the table Submitted on: 2001-02-14 |

| When I first listened to this album I simply could't delieve it. Scandinavia has built a consiberable reputation for producing metal and rock bands by the lorry load, unfortunatly the vast majority of these are are dodgy Goth-types with a habit of setting churches on fire and stabbing people they don't like. Face Down though are an entirly different propersition. 'Mindfield' is an exercise in breaking bones with precise, heavy, and extremly aggressive metal, much in a similar vien to Machien Head's first two albums. Aro's vocals are powerful enough to rival anyone in this style of music, and the musicianship backing him up is faultless. This is quality stuff, and you need it. |
