Hal, Yeah! Submitted on: 2005-10-02 |

| Hal Blaine's solo album is pretty darn cool when the mood hits you. This was done at the time when hot rod music was big(kind of a cousin to surf music), so all the song titles and the overall theme is cars. Musically the album sounds like songs you would hear as theme music running over the credits of some old tv show or movie. Other songs sound like music you'd hear in a 60s movie-Most likely in a scene with high school kids dancing around at a drive-in burger joint. Sounds of cars revving and whizzing by are sprinkled all throughout. The bonus tracks(there are quite a few) are all similar in sound to the album, but there are a couple with female vocals that make it sound a bit like the Shangri-Las. Blaine sounds as though he's having fun playing the drums as opposed to just being show off-y or razzle dazzle-y. As the listener it's difficult not to have fun right along with him. |

World's greatest session drummer steps out solo Submitted on: 2001-04-28 |

| This is a reissue of Hal's 1963 RCA LP (tracks 1-12) plus a variety of bonus tracks from the same period, six of them previously unreleased. Hal was the studio drummer on so many hits by the Beach Boys, Byrds, Monkees, Phil Spector, and hundreds of others. It's a treat to hear him on his own with fellow stellar session musicians on these rocking surf & drag instrumentals. Track listing : 1. Challenger II, 2. Green Monster, 3. Nashville Coupe, 4. Mr. Elininator, 5. Pop the Chute, 6. Deuces, "T's", Roadsters & Drums, 7. Gear Change, 8. The Phantom Driver, 9. Gear Stripper, 10. Big "T", 11. The Traps, 12. Drum Brakes, 13. Hawaii 1963, 14.
