Opening a door into a wonderful room of new music Submitted on: 2009-06-10 |

| I read the Wikipedia blurb on the Buena Vista Social Club record (can't remember why). It referred to Benny More and Perez Prado. So I checked them out. Wow! Finding this CD (Lo Mejor de lo Mejor - Perez Prado), Beny More's Cubano and Lo Mejor de lo Mejor - Beny More (also listed as "Benny More") are like stumbling upon the Bob Marley's Legend compilation if you never heard Bob Marley. There are great YouTube videos of them, too. To me, these guys, Benny Goodman with Charlie Christian and Tommy Dorsey with Frank Sinatra are the very, very best of the big bands. My favorites are Cerezo Roza (was that in a 50's TV show?), the similar Sabor a Mi and Norma la de Guadalajara. Mambo No. 5 is very familiar but very fun. Paricia was a hit for Perez, but I like the Ry Cooder version much better (maybe because I heard it first). Quien Sera has an electric guitar (or it sounds like one) and could have been lifted from an early Ventures record. It could have been a follow up to the Peter Gunn theme. These are all upbeat and energetic. The recordings are excellent, although the horns in the highest registers bleat occasionally. |

mambo bliss Submitted on: 2009-03-31 |

| My dad originally had this collection of songs in vinyl. I can't quite recall when he got a hold of it, but as long and far as i can remember, I've always loved mambo. And why not, the architect of this sound richly demonstrates the appeal and greatness in a collection that as lengthy as it is (40 songs), it leaves me wanting more. I particularly cherish and enjoy the collaborations with Benny More, and songs like "Patricia" "Politecnico" "Ruletero" "Que Rico Mambo" "Guaglione" and "Cerezo Roza." I thoroughly love this collection of songs, and i think everyone else should too. AAAAAaaaaaa-AAAAHHHH! |

Excelente! |

Nostalgic with an unmatched rhythm that can not be found in our contemporary latin music. Perez Prado created with his mambo not just another fad but an epoch that that has extended its vibrancy until today. Anybody with good knowledge and taste for good music, particularly latin, will agree of the tremendous genious behind Perez Prado`s Mambo. |
