Kingston Wall returns into the electronica Submitted on: 2002-01-13 |

| The mastermind of Kingston Wall, lead guitarist/singer Pete Walli went to the underworld in 1995, but his music and the spirit of Kingston Wall lives strongly in Finnish music scene. That's why it isn't a surprise that a tribute album of this kind was made, and I think it's a great thing. On this album you'll hear remixes of Kingston Wall songs (from their albums 'I' and 'II') made by top-notch Finnish underground techno artists who release their material currently under a Finnish record label called "Exogenic Records". The artists on this remix-album are Possible Apple, Texas Faggott, Praktika, Accu, Squaremeat and Mutka. I must say that on this album, like it usually is with remix-albums, there's bits and pieces of little bit of this and that. The songs don't follow the same line, which is probably a good thing since it keeps the album interesting, the songs "melt together" just fine so that's not a problem. The songs I liked the most on this album are Possible Apple's remix of "And I Hear You Call", Texas Faggotts' utterly twisted remix (what did you expect, huh?) of "We Cannot Move" and Accu's great, groovy, dubby, spacey downtempo vision of "With My Mind". Biggest downside to this album is probably it's length, yet it is a full-priced CD. I doubt that everyone who hears this album will like ALL the tracks, some may not even like the idea of their favourite band being twisted and remixed into techno, but for me this one was worth the money. |
