Very intense live album.
Hits you hard and fast, you don't have to be a fan of electronica to enjoy this. If you are a fan of daft punk you need to pick this up, to prepare for the mind-blowing sequal ALIVE 2007.

MASSIVE!!! Submitted on: 2006-09-21 |

First of all, so you know how good this CD is, I must admit that this is my first review in 3 years. With this album, I just had to make this step.
Let me start with saying that for the last 2 or 3 years I didn't lay my hands on a CD that would totally blow my mind. It has changed recently thanks to Alive 1997.
If you don't like electronic music that sounds a bit repetitive - this is not for you. But if you like it, or you are open minded and like to discover new grounds - give it a try (you won't regret). The only thing you should do before buying this live album is buying HOMEWORK by Daft Punk or at least listening to Da Funk, Rollin&Scratchin and Alive. Homework is their first and in my opinion best effort (only minority prefers Discovery I guess). When you will be totally fed up with the tracks like Da Funk, Rollin&Scratchin and Alive (if it's possible) turn on this live album. It is by far the best live recording I have ever heard. There is only one track on the whole CD (which in my opinion is good, because it stops you from messing around with this 45-minute masterpiece) which contains big parts of the songs I mentioned before. I had to take my jaw back from the floor after the first listen. Too bad I missed it 5 long years ago, when it was released. And when you think it's great after 10-15 minutes it gets even better.
I had the oportunity to see The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers which was a stunning experience for me (too bad they didn't record any of their shows to make an LP), but after listening to this CD by Daft Punk I can say that I was also on Le Daft Punk gig. This album is so real, that everytime you listen to it, your legs and hands won't stop moving, and you feel like you are there listening to them live.
And I'm not even a big fan of DP. I think that every next album is worse from the previous one (only my humble opinion), but fortunately for me this one contains only songs from their first effort. The songs on this live set change into something you have never heard before - but you really love it (of course if Homework is the thing that moves you). There are so many unsuspected changes in tempo, volume etc.
When I heard this CD for the first time I decided that I have to see them live as soon as possible. After a while I discovered that they probably don't play shows like this anymore (after all so much has happened in their career since 1997).
It has only one disadvantage... it's way too short, it's not the whole gig, instead it fades out during alive and you only wish it would last forever... |

- Dafunk back to the punk come on - Submitted on: 2006-06-06 |

| Alive was a very good listen as you got to hear the famous hits such as, Da Funk, Rollin' & Scratchin', & Alive. I like how it started off with the elements of Daftendirekt and quickly built itself into Da Funk. The improvs between each song was very cool and by them making each song a bit more extended in their LIVE performance made for listeners want to hear more it. A lot of people say that LIVE performances really aren't much because they don't sound as good as a studio performance, but I beg to differ. LIVE performances by techno artists and groups are, most of the times, some of their best work. Other examples would include the LIVE cuts from Underworld or The Chemical Brothers. Daft Punk shows extends the pleasure of these hit tracks off of their Homework CD and gives the listeners a privilege. Alive 1997 is a must for the fans, along with their other material of course. |

Jaw-dropping! Submitted on: 2006-01-08 |

Like the other reviewers, I will bring up this point first and foremost: this CD has one 45 minute track. In my opinion its fine, I tend to listen to the CD on repeat 3-4 times while driving to my sister's or somewhere.
Anyway, The CD starts off with some snares that encapsulate your senses straight away. The beats continue to mutate and change through-out the CD, and the crowd participation is great. At one point the beat starts to die down and the crowd jumps in with a beat of their own. They stomp their feet and clap their hands in unison, and one smart guy whistles his own melody in tune for about 2 minutes. Then the snares and bass start up again and carry you on into the next phase of the CD.
In short, this CD is great. Bare bones, yes, with only a few stickers and a CD, but still great. It will set the bar for live electronica in the future, and I doubt it will ever be topped. Long live DP!
5/5! |

| That' I was Saying that this Album worth to Buy (Great Albumm) [A Album Worth to Buy and a album for only Die-hard fans or electronic and techno farts. this album is worth to collect) Because is a live album and really if you want to buy this album. It only gots 1 track, the complete enchilada of a 45 1/2 minutes concertlong (Good For The people that want to dance in the house lonely or in the car or anywhere if you dont got nothing to listen, listen to this one) To me Is a Collection, a die-hard fan need's this album to collect this. I doesn't matter if is only one track but in my opionion is that I think they didnt want to mess up the concert tape for edits or something and really, and is good, so buy it anybody, if you interested of Le Daft Punk and try this one if you listen to Discovery and Homework, and the other albums, but this album i recomend for the live albums. Any Die-Hard fans that you need to finish your daft punk cattolog and dont forget this one. Is worth buying . |
