| I was a little disappointed when Clint left some of his songs off his first Greatest Hits album, but was elated when he included them on this great album. I think he is a terrific singer. I have also met him, and he was awesome in person and performance too. "Nobody's Home," "Walkin' Away," "Nothing's News," and "One more Payment" are some of the outstanding songs on this equally outstanding album. If you enjoy Clint's music, you will not be disappointed by this album. I have never regretted buying it. |

 A voice of contradiction

The review provided by Amazon states that Clint Black lost the race to Garth Brooks as the dominant male country singer of the 90's. But as we all know, in the music industry, true success is a marathon, not a sprint. Garth may have dominated for a few years, but he burned out and went into semi-retirment while Clint keeps plugging along.
The reviews also tend to say that the duets bog down this CD. I prefer the duets. Especially those with wife Lisa Hartman Black. I have been a fan of hers since the short-lived TV show "Tabitha" back in the 70's. When she became a regular on "Knots Landing" in the 80's, I loved it when she would sing on the show. I don't know why her recording career never took off, but I love both of her duets with Clint. In fact, it is mainly because of those 2 duets (plus the duet with Martina McBride) that I bought this CD. The duets between Clint and Lisa and their accompanying videos mean even more because they are a real couple and they truly mean the words they are saying. These are not like some "super star" duets where the 2 people on the record never even met and the vocals were recorded at different times and then mixed together in the studio. This is 2 people who are truly in love.
Anyway, I recommend this CD for those duets. I only give it 3 stars because the other songs are good, but not my favorites. I really and truly only LOVE those 3 duets. |

I really hate the song, 'Been There'. I have horrendous memories of sitting on the schoolbus while our bus driver played this song at full blast, and even after many years of not having ridden on that godforsaken bus, that terrible song has never quite left my mind. It is absolutely the worst song I ever heard in my entire life and whoever likes it should get their head checked. Seriously! I'd listen to NSYNC before I would ever listen to this horrible song, and I despise boybands! I hope that song's no longer on the air, because it really, really, really sucks. And, unfortunately, the fact that it can get stuck in your head just might drive you insane.

| If you want the best of Clint, buy Killin' Time. Its really the only Clint Black that is essential, even though several other CDs of his are very good. The first Greatest Hits cd is good but left off several number one hits in order to justify a second greatest hits cd. And this is it. No suprise, the "A" material here is from Killin' Time (songs that should have been on the first greatest hits cd) and a few good ones from Tailights. The rest is average. The duets, as with most country male-female duets, are focused more on sappy lyrics than good music. This is a good cd but far from his best. |

More Of The Best Of Black!

| I have always thought that Clint Black was above a lot of other country artists that he has been lumped with over the years,or of any artist to come out of the genre in years. He has a real country twangish voice, strong lyrics, and very melodic songs. His first greatest hits was a magnificent album. Perfect in every way. This one is almost as perfect, but not quite. This new set includes three hits from his first album "Killin' Time" in 1989 that were omitted from his first greatest hits set. Here you get "Walkin' Away", "Nobody's Home", and "Nothings News". All great traditional country classics. The rest is a mix of real country songs and some of Clint's more rocking/pop songs that he has done in the last few years. His most recent duets with wife Lisa Hartman Black on "When I Said I Do", and good friend Steve Wariner on the great "Been There", are here. Also included is his pretty duet with Martina McBride called "Still Holding On". Two of my favorites, "Nothin' But The Tailights" and "The Shoes Your Wearing" are included as well. The reason this set isn't as great as the first is that some of these songs are pretty light. There's nothing wrong with that at all, but they don't hold up for very long like some others. The three new songs here are a mixed bunch. Clint tries to do another duet with his wife on the anemic and bland "Easy For Me To Say". The magic that made their first duet a pretty song is entirely missing on this one. "Money Or Love" is a fun rockin' toe tapper in the way that only Clint can do it. Many reviewers say this song is as cliched as they come. So?. It has words, it has a beat, he sings, it does it's job. End of story. The last new song is a song for his new baby called "Little Pearl". It is, of course, a fantastic song.... I hate it when people get irritated when an artist writes something sweet and special for a loved one. Isn't doing that one of the best things about writing a song?. The song is gorgeous and sweet with adorable lyrics. Clint is a brilliant lyricist. He's an incredible musician and performer. There is no one else like him. Sure, Mr. Black has strayed a little from his roots, but who cares?. It's all about the music. He's just doing what he does best and we can't thank him enough for it. Looking forward to more great music from this man in black. |
