Just OK Submitted on: 2007-04-13 |

It was nice to hear some Human League songs that I didn't know
existed, and it was good to hear Phil Oakey's voice again, but I can see why they may have received mixed reviews when this was originally released.
The several short instrumental synth interludes have a more catchy beat than the tracks with vocals.
It seemed to me on a whole that the lyrics were lame.
From listening to the whole cd it seemed to me that the synth interludes would have done well if they were developed into full length songs.
To me it seemed like a lot of material was half finished and the rest was unpolished.

More Than Humanly Possible Submitted on: 2006-02-16 |

| Just glorious...this is one of the best up-tempo CDs EVER. I can't believe this CD has passed me by for so long. It's better than I could have expected from Human League. WOW! The beats grab you and never let go and still infuse some great melodies. |

Great Fun Pop Album....BUY IT!! Submitted on: 2006-02-11 |

| I never write reviews but this CD is such a great pop album I felt obligated to let any potential buyers know. I love unapologic pop music (Madonna, George Michael, Kylie Minogue, Gwen Stefani) and this CD took me by surprise. I can not believe that it was a commercial failure, even in Europe. All 9 vocal songs are very very catchy and upbeat. I don't listen to the instrumental interludes so will not review them. "All I Ever Wanted" is a top notch single and the only release from the CD. "Love Me Madly" and "Liar" (great bass line in the latter) are two other top notch songs that should have been released. "The Snake", "You'll Be Sorry", and "Reflections" are all great songs on a slightly lower level than the previous three. "Sin City", "Shameless", and "Never Give Your Heart" are my three least favorites and are still highly listenable tracks. This CD has caused me to go back and relisten to Human League and realize what a great group they are. I can not wait for a new CD! If you want a great Pop Electronic CD from start to finish BUY THIS NOW. |

Another great League Album Submitted on: 2005-11-29 |

When I was in London, I didn't find too many Human League CD's available.......Blimey! Marketing in Europe dictates promoting other new fresh hip newcomers as a priority, which left no room for the tracks off of the League's Secret Album to get radio airplay.
I think Secrets is one of their best album, fresh, updated and very creative. It has the core of that electronic sound that made them popular and the pioneer's of synthesizer music in the late 70's and early 80's. I like the instrumental music in between the main tracks, as it works well.
I really enjoyed listening to it and most of the tracks are upbeat (in keeping with the League's identity as "Dance Band" who likes "Pop" music). I think all the tracks are good, unlike their old albums, where you wondered what they were smoking when recording those odd tracks, nevertheless, they grew on me.
I definitely recommend hard core League fans to take a listen to this album, I really enjoying listening to all the tracks. Overall, very good. |

A surprisingly great album from a legendary band! Submitted on: 2005-01-09 |

| Wow! I have typically been disappointed with new/comeback albums from bands popular in the 80s as they usually are filled with totally bland, midtempo, forgettable tracks. Well, this is NOT like that at all! This is exactly what I expect the Human League to sound like in the 21st century. This album is the perfect combination of synthpop and electronica, without getting too harsh or dark like other synth bands have in their attempts to update their sound (ie: Information Society, Anything Box, Red Flag). A very classic yet totally modern sound that is still unmistakeably the Human League. I was lucky enough to see them perform much of this album in their last tour and they did a great job! |
