Commissioned Does It Again Submitted on: 2009-09-03 |

Commissioned * Commissioned Reunion (Verity, 2002) Produced by Fred Hammond
If you've been a regular Commissioned fan throughout all time and seasons, then you've come to expect that ordinary just won't do. That they have an irreplaceable love for what they do and ... This is a really tight project.
But first, the bad news ... Michael Brooks and Maxx Frank --now pastors-- were not able to participate at this live recording in October 2001. Eddie Howard and Chris Poole are not here. Allegedly, Montrel Darrett wasn't asked to participate. Also absent are prominent supporting artists like Dawkins & Dawkins, Mike E, Parkes Stewart, Witness and the list goes on. However, the original voices are here, as well as Marvin Sapp and Marcus Cole (who at times, reminds you of Montrel Darrett) ... And this brings us to another great flaw of this project.
In the midst of Jazzy/Funky re-interpretations of classic songs and dazzling harmonies that astound, Marcus and Marvin are sort of left hanging --Marcus moreso than Marvin. Yes, he is included on many of the tunes, often taking some of Keith Staten's old ad-libs and refashioning them. However, none of his compositions are included on this 2CD set, nor are any of the songs from the group's 1996 album, "Irreplaceable Love" --which was so good that it landed a coveted spot on the BEST BUY store chains' listening stations with a glowing review. This is a pity, since some of Marvin Sapp's best performances were on the "IL".
See, I'm glad that the old gang came back together, but with RFC on backing vocals and "non-Commissioned" musicians playing ... As great as this project sounds and as much as it will minister to all that listen ... For die-hard fans who've been there from "I'm Goin' On" all the way to the present ... It's just another episode of "The Fred Hammond Show".

Like To See A Few Changes!! Good Overall!! Submitted on: 2009-08-15 |

| I have been a big Commissioned fan since I was a kid. When this album came out I was very excited because I was so upset when the original members of Commissioned broke up. I must say this album really grew on me when I saw the DVD. In my books the music gets a 5 star rating, for sure it was off the chain. Hearing all the songs I remember just brought nothing but memories. There are a few complaints I have, but it won't keep me from listening to the album. I wish this reunion included just the original members of Commissioned with the exception of Marvin Sapp, I do like Marvin Sapp he has brought flavor to the group. I didn't care to much for RFC vocals overriding the voices of Commissioned on a couple of tracks. To me it was just not original. I'm sorry people no one can beat or sing Commissioned songs better than Commissioned!! I find myself listing to the studio version (from back in the day) more than I do this live album. Don't get wrong if I lost for broke this cd I will buy it again, It was a good project I just wish different things could have been done. "There will never be another Commissioned like the original members" I do wonder why Michael Brooks wasn't a part of the reunion, Michael Brooks is the man everyone!! Seriously he is so gifted, great on the keys and is one of the best, if not "THE BEST" song writer in the music industry. He wrote most of the songs for Commissioned, the fact he wasn't there did disappointed me. I do hope Commissioned can put together another reunion album (original members only) and sing the songs that wasn't recorded on the reunion project like Learn To Pray, If My People, He Set Me Free, I'm Gonna Let My Love Flow, I Will Never Leave You, and sing the full version of Strange Land . . . . I could go on and on. The lyrics of Commissioned gets a 5 star rating because they didn't compromise their message with the world, their message was design to uplift your spirit so I must say thank you Commissioned for being a part of my childhood life, your music lives on and on!! Peace!! |

OH......MY.....GOD!!! UN-BEE-"LEAVE"-"ABLE!!!!" Submitted on: 2009-04-12 |

| I just listened to just the audio samples and after listening to them ...the answer is quite clear. Commissioned is by far and away, without question, bar none, the best Gospel group OF ALL TIME!!!(By the way, I purchased the CD and DVD after listening to the samples) The harmony of the guys, the production that was mentioned by a previous reviewer, the sound was/still is vintage Commissioned. With all due respect to my other favorite gospel group the Winans, these guys are #1 and the Winans are 1A.(In my humble opinion) GET IT NOW!!! DON'T DELAY!!! ORDER NOW!! |

New Album Submitted on: 2005-03-10 |

| I enjoyed this album. Commissioned is a very anointed and talented group. Seeing them together was great. I know the members are doing their own things now, but I hope they are not done as a group. I would to see another album with brand new songs from Commissioned soon, perhaps sometime in 2005 since it is their 20th anniversary. |
