If you've never heard Paul Thorn you're missing a great music experience Submitted on: 2009-03-20 |

| I had never heard of Paul Thorn until I saw him at a blues festival last summer in Portland, Oregon. While he is not blues per se he was one of the acts at the festival that demanded my attention and I purposed to purchase some of his CD's. His comedic and folksy wisdom narrative added much to the enjoyment of his music. This CD does not disappoint as the singer, songwriter, guitarist delivers a unique southern rhythm and blues tinged rock sound with the occasional slow song of intense vocal and melodic merit. In fact his song "I'm a Lucky Man" is worth the money of the CD itself. This song delivers a message of gratitude amidst a poignant sorrow filled observation of other folks life circumstances with a melody that just won't leave your mind. Upon listening to the CD one can hear the roots of Paul Thorn and his southern upbringing. There are bouncy tunes such as the CD title song "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand" that get your feet a tapping while amusing your comedic sense as well as the song "Ain't Livin' in Sin No More." Without trying to write something overly long which won't be read I'd suggest that everyone give this CD a try. I'm not from the south neither am I a rock fan, but Mr. Thorn has captured me as a fan. |

| I'm a real Paul Thorn fan, so, I've got all his cds. This one has some great stuff on it, but, it isn't my favorite. Nevertheless, it's worth owning; he's a genius! |

Not To be Missed, For One Night Only..... Submitted on: 2008-07-03 |

Paul Thorn's America of faith healers and tent revivals is there between the Wal-Marts, strip malls and McDonalds that seem to be everywhere in this country. Its a beautiful and ugly place, it's strengths are the stories of people who we don't often hear about (Sister Ruby, for example, is a real person, I don't know about the Mission Temple Fireworks Stand, but I hope it's real too) and a joyous rocking sound, which we need to hear more of.
From the UK,America often gives the impression that it really is nothing more than one big McDonald's. Paul Thorn is evidence of another America, more different, beautiful and humane. Kind of like Brendan Croker (go look him up).
