Slew of vocal trance anthems Submitted on: 2005-06-14 |

Ace was the first full length album from the trance trio from Belgium. The CD features many songs that ended up becoming vocal trance anthems, including a new (and better) version of "Castles in the Sky."
The album features predominantly up-beat, very dancable vocal trance tracks. There are a few laid back tracks that are more ambient and atmospheric (and filler-ish) though. For the most part though, this album is a straight up collection of vocal trance songs. Some listners may be turned off by the 'pop' approach to trance that this CD takes, but most trance fans will accept it since vocal trance is such a common-place thing anymore.
Annemie's voice is very fitting for the music, and her lyrics are not all that bad. There are a few songs where she sounds like she was not very inspired when the the songs were being written, but that is to be expected since these are ment for dancing too, not contemplating.
There are a couple instrumentals on this CD, and they help add variety to the vocal trance attack that is ACE. These tracks might also help those that do not like vocal trance re-consider Ian Van Dahl; but they are very few and in-between, so they will probably not be enough for those that do not like having words in their dance music.
Over all, ACE garners a 4 star rating. It could go as low as a 3.5, but there are just so many single-worthy songs on here... it is hard not to give it a 4. |

| I've never had a better CD. Amber was my favorite until I got this one! If you're like me, you like dance, club, techno, trance, and electronica, which means you'll absolutely LOVE this CD. Do you know how amazingly long the remixes are? You could play just two or three for a party and you wouldn't even finish the last one before the end! This is definately a very, vvveeerrryyy, VERY remarkable album. |

| "Castles in the Sky" is a truly brilliant song: a sublime piece of ambient trance music. It is true that no other track comes close to being as good; however, "Will I" and "Nights on Java" are interesting variations. Songs like "Reason" and "Lonely" are, admittedly, quite tedious. It is on those songs where the vocalist tries to dominate the music that this is most prominent - an all too common fault within the genre. However, to their credit, this problem does not occur as much as with, say, the likes of DJ Encore. The second disc of remixes is very good indeed, and provides another reason why this album should be purchased as one of the better modern trance CDs available. |
