The gargling never ends Submitted on: 2009-10-02 |

I have to join those reviewers who have stated very accurately, she can not sing. She can play jazz piano well and that's about it. I don't know why she's so popular ... I think it has something to do with ambition, luck and excelling in the art of kiss & tell. She sings like she gargles mouthwash, maybe this is why she's married to a guy who sounds severely constipated.
The tracks on this cd are uneven in recording quality - like they were cut from different sessions. I have lot of respect for Doug Sax who remastered this album accurately capturing the instruments but the vocal performances & arrangements are for the dogs who are all howling in protest.
Previous reviewer justifiably compared her to Tony Benett as in seriously over-rated shouting as opposed to seriously over-rated gargling which never ends. |

My first album - but it is the best Submitted on: 2009-09-20 |

| I hate to admit, but I have only recently started collecting Ms. Krall's albums. I have listened online to several of hers, though, and this is probably her finest. Her style speaks for herself, and you can sense her sophistication in her renditions. I am listening to it over and over. While I have other jazz albums, this ranks as one of my favorites. |

Beautiful use of audience energy which is incorporated in a way that doesn't detract from the music. It gives the feeling you're there.
Several of the tracks highlight at least one of her band's instruments which adds to the "show" quality. |

One Album I Never Get Tired Of Submitted on: 2009-02-23 |

Lucky me, this was my introduction to Diana Krall, and to be honest, none of her other albums have surpassed this one in quality in my opinion.
These are primarily jazz standards and very singable. I find myself belting them out every time I listen to it.
I'm not normally a fan of live albums, I only know of one other that is fantastic, but I love, love, love this album!
I don't see how anyone who loves jazz could possibly be disappointed. |

Will make you a jazz fan Submitted on: 2008-10-06 |

Sometimes live performances don't live up to to their studio counterparts, but in this case Krall adds dimension and depth to her already formidable studio recordings. Dexterously inventive, she puts improvisation back into jazz-isn't that is what jazz is all about? You'll recognize all the old standards, and some super arrangements. She knows how to swing and her up-tempo version of 'Devil May Care', to my ears, is slick and simply dazzling.
(Warning: Jazz critics may turn their noses up at all this as they seem to do when a jazz artist achieves a modicum of popularity or crossover appeal(then they wonder why jazz is an endangered species) but just ignore them-Diana Krall is one of the best to come along in a long long time) |
