Country Folk in intimate setting Submitted on: 2008-11-13 |

| Gillian's sincerity and virtuosity are particularly appropriate to black and white filming..some kind of grainy earnestness is expressed. Some of the grabs of her lounging between recording sessions, of closely watched guitar cases, of shoes, of her whisps of hair harken of a bygone, dustbowl era. If you have the disc, you'll probably want this visual accompaniment. Rawlings is sensational and, for my money, watching him at work, his rapture, his response to his partner's muse is exemplary, and makes the disc worthwhile, whatever other merits remain. Neil Young's, Pacahontas (and I'd add that something of his intense brow descends upon welch)is a standout. Dylan's,'Billy' is similarly treated to great effect, though with an unprecedented bluegrass wash. |

I first became aware of Gillian and David on the DVD'DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAIN'. The REVELATOR COLLECTION is a must have if you like these two great musicians. I only wish they would do more in DVD.

This is a fantastic DVD, the songs are all wonderful, and although I've heard most of these songs on CD, it is quite a different experience to watch this wonderful duo perform them.(no, I've never seen them live) The harmonies are seamless, and gorgeous. Rawlings guitar work is unbelievable, and their humble, understated appearance is quite refreshing in this day and age. I enjoyed the black and white production, definitely congruent with the musical style.
I'd never heard their cover of Neil Young's "Pocahantas" before- and that was a very pleasant surprise for me (huge fan of Neil's too)
I enjoy having this DVD in my collection, it's a treat to pop it in, sit back and enjoy the ride... |

| trying to increase my GW collection and this one's pretty good. They have such a mournful sound, but its kind of soothing at the same time. Love the close harmonies. |

Not for everyone, but I really liked it Submitted on: 2007-01-18 |

| Saw Gillian Welch on "Austin City Limits" and was intrigued. She was doing the title song of this CD. Checked into it. Bought all three of her CDs. They are very good but out of the ordinary. She may be an acquired taste, but it is worth the effort. Recommend her music highly. |
