It's too bad Camu Tao passed.. Submitted on: 2009-04-07 |
|
...He was a talented cat. He, Cage and Mighty Mi did a fine job constructing a fun, over the top concept album. It's a dirty, sleazy, raunchy concept and they sell it well. They really buy into it and make it convincing. It's like watching a bad 1982 Dirty Cop Drama in 2009, only with more drugs, hookers, and XXX rated scenes (and vampires).
I haven't heard much else of Mighty Mi's work, but the touches he contributes here flow in well with Camu's production. You can tell that much of the album is Camu's baby, but whatever Mighty did add in works with the rest of the vibe of the album seamlessly. Cage and Camu compliment each other well vocally and they really spit some entertaining stuff here. There is a lot of violence, sex, and drugs, horrorcore stuff. It had friends of mine shaking their head, but it had me laughing.
You've gotta take this album for what it is, but it's undeniably a good time.
In response to the review that suggested you pick this up if you like Eminem, I'll say the inverse: If you don't like Eminem, don't let that review steer you away. I never liked Eminem much, but I do like Cage a lot. They do have vaguely similar voices, but their entire vibe is very different. Cage is undeniably underground (and I mean that in a complimentary way). And for those that haven't heard much of Camu Tao, pick this up and also give SA Smash a listen. Great stuff in both and those two albums really go well together.
Stand out tracks: Keep the City Up, Nighthawks, Street Poly |

Like an hip hop action flick for your ears Submitted on: 2008-04-15 |

| Man this is a crazy CD. The beats are crazy, the lyrics are crazier. Somebody told me a long time ago to check out Cage, and I see they were right. These two catas should to another CD together. |

Great concept cd! Submitted on: 2004-02-28 |
|
| This succeeds where most concept albums fail, continuity over plot, and good music over experimental. slammin! |
