They're all Stars in my book Submitted on: 2009-02-13 |

702's first album, No Doubt was a pretty good debut for the Las Vegas trio. Their second album was decent but it could have been better. This album is their best album to date. Meelah's voice has shown maturity as well as the songs.
There are some great tracks to be found on here: the first single I Still Love You(which the beat sounds like a mix of Clipse's Grinding and Her Sanity's Xclusive) was good choice for first single. Let your Hair Down was a good song to kick off the album with. Star feat Clipse was a good follow up single to I Still Love You. Trouble, Reality, Certified, Places, Better Day(Ghetto Girl) and Im Wit It are songs that give this album a boost in the replay value factor.
There are few duds on here: No Way is certified filler and Blah Blah Blah Blah will have you saying just that. The production for the most part is good and the singing is a step up from the last album(which wasnt bad).
702's Star is one of the most underrated R&B albums in 2003. This trio is part of 90s R&B and the three albums they had are better than this R&P(Repetitive and Pop) posing as R&B now.
Standouts: LET YOUR HAIR DOWN, STAR, TROUBLE, I STILL LOVE YOU, REALITY, CERTIFIED, PLACES(my favorite), STRINGING ME ALONG, BETTER DAY(GHETTO GIRL), JEALOUSY and IM WIT IT. |

One of the Finest R&B CDs i own.... Submitted on: 2008-03-16 |

702 are my girls i have been a fan of theirs for years and they came out with their finest work....STAR is definatley one of my favourite cds in my collection... alwayz being played.
the promotion on this cd was just terrible... i saw the 'star' video like twice and i heard that 'i still love you' was going to b the next single... no play. i feel bad cuz really good groups like this get shafted and dont get the chance to b tru STARS!
hands down my favourite track is 'places'. this 7 min. plus r&b extravaganza is one of my favourite slow song of all time... my girls harmonies were so tight and on point.
another banger of mine is 'trouble' this off-beat track WORKS in all directions.... it may sound wierd at first but it draws you in.
'i still love you' is a overall brilliant song... pharrell's vocals is sick.... the beat is just bananas....
'feelings' 'star' 'let your hair down' 'stringing me along' & 'come & knock on my door' are joints you cant pass up...
this cd is just overall brilliant and i recommend this album to anybody who loves slo jams and great party tracks....
5+ stars out of 5: PLEASE COME BACK TO US!!!!

As a fan of this trio, I bought this disc for the one stand-out track, I STILL LOVE YOU. I heard it on the radio one day and fell in love with the song, I instantly recognized it as a Neptunes track and incorrectly thought that they had worked on more than 2 tracks with 702.
When I initially listened to the entire disc, it seemed and still seems disjointed to me because of the number of different producers they used - there is no cohesive sound to the album. I guess they figured it'd be the group's last disc so they went for the gusto but it left them with an album of mostly filler tracks. If they had released I STILL LOVE YOU first instead of STAR, they might have stirred up enough buyer interest to make this album go gold.
The positives about this group is the fact that Meelah was always the lead singer which gave them a distinctive sound much like Destiny's Child. Their harmonies and background vocals are always on point as well which makes even the filler tracks slightly interesting to listen to.
The other tracks that I really liked were those produced by the Kollective: PLACES & CERTIFIED - both have a really pretty live instrumentation sound. STRINGING ME ALONG, BETTER DAYS, NO WAY & BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH are also enjoyable to me - they don't stand out in the same way I STILL LOVE YOU does but again, 702's harmonies are excellent on each of those tracks. Sadly, I'd only recommend that die-hard fans get this entire disc and others try to get the single of I STILL LOVE YOU since that's really the best song on the entire disc. |
