"NOT WITH A WHIMPER, WITH A BANG!"

This lyric from the title track sums up Oddjobs explosive EP. I saw Crescent Moon doing back-up for Slug and Eyedea in 2001, and was keen to hear what his own stuff was like.

I am a MASSIVE Atmosphere/Eyedea fan so it means a lot when I say that this EP is possibly even BETTER than stuff that Slug puts out. It is the most consistently amazing, diverse, richly textured collection of songs I have ever heard. Serious.

Cres Moon et al create a bleak soundscape with honest lyrics, making for a REALNESS that I have never heard before. Being from Bristol, UK, I was especially happy to hear an unmistakable Portishead/Massive Attack influence on songs like "Tricks" and the beautiful "Burden Streak".

All six tracks are awesome but if I had to pick one, it would possibly be the last track, "Transparent", in which Cres Moon raps about his dropkick father. You have never heard such passion in a song, and you have never heard such emotion in a voice on record. I am listening to it as I write this and I have the hairs standing up on end.

I cannot believe I have seen a magazine give this just 3 stars. It deserves 1 for each member of the band. There are five members, in case you hadn't guessed..............

Do you remember back in the day when Wu Tang used to come out with dope album after dope album, you didnt know what to expect but you knew it would be that much better than the previous release. Now Wu is putting out garbage, but what Im trying to say is these guys (oddjobs) are the ones who put out something better every time they have a new release. Anyway I have been a fan for about 2 years now and I have all albums from Absorbing Playtime to Shopkeepers Wife, and every album keeps improving. This is a masterpiece, I know it just came out but I know greatness when I hear it. First of all every member of this 5 man crew is an important part of the music, both djs create a complex canvas for all 3 mc's to paint on, Im talking beats that change direction at anytime, no boring same beat throughout the whole song. All 3 mc's change up flows to perfectly match the ever changing beats, although I think Cres Moon is the illist of the 3.
Song 6 is one of my favorites, its about Cres Moon's deadbeat father, its verry real and moving. Of course the title track is probably the best, as it was one of the best songs on Drums.

Sorry for the long review but I just cant praise this album enough.
