Stunning, Stunning, Stunning! Submitted on: 2008-07-20 |

| I just got this and can't stop watching the "bonus" DVD. I thought it might have 2 or 3 songs - NO - This is a whole concert on DVD. As everyone else has pointed out, Allison's voice is just a pure gift in it's clarity and phrasing. The delivery of two songs in particular make me want to say this is my favorite music video ever. "Bully Jones", a raucous duet with Kid Rock is electric ... you can just feel chemistry happening. In contrast with that (by mood) is another duet with another semiwild semioutlaw, Shelby Lynne. Again I experience just shivvers, hearing the two girls asking, "Is Heaven Good enough for You?" oh, BTW, the band is a band that is just cookin' on all 8 cylinders. great guitar licks throughout. |

My Opinion Submitted on: 2007-03-21 |

Okay, I'm finally giving in and espousing my opinion as hard as it is to do. I love music, all kinds, but often times the most popular music artists that you see time and time again on award shows just simply don't come close to the more obscure artist in my opinion. Although it will never happen, I long for the time to see and listen to such artists as Allison Moorer, Kelly Willis, Kasey Chambers, Tift Merritt and others on their own TV music show. Allison Moorer's voice and beauty far surpasses the "popular music artist" that we so often see on TV and hear on the radio.
This album is absolutely one of the best in this genre. In my opinion, if one wants to go to another melodic place in time then these are the songs to listen to. It simply saddens me that she doesn't get the credit that she deserves. |

What a voice ! (And what a deal) Submitted on: 2004-05-07 |

| Her voice has the same timbre as Wynona's but her material is more country and less pop. Her lyrics are often more emotionally raw and her delivery better attuned to the words and music. I also wonder why Universal South and MCA kept Ms. Moorer's light under a bushel for so long, and maybe that explains her recent move to Sugar Hill (DUEL is her fine, first release on that label). She's an artist who cares about her audience, and releases full disks of great music with wide dynamic range. Indeed, you can even find this release, without the free DVD, on hybrid SACD. This set would be a fine introduction for those who have never heard her sing (as would her new edgy, new release on Sugar Hill). What gives this set the edge, though, is its very generous program of new songs and a bonus DVD which includes the entire set on video -- a good thing because Ms. Moorer is at least as pretty as she is talented. The only negatives here involve some duos with sister Shelby. They sound a little shrill at times (though Shelby is a good harmonist) and some of their improv is a little repetitious and wearing. And Kid Rock's appearance towards the end of the disk is a mystifying event. Skip it unless you have the interest. Small complaints aside, it's wonderful to see real talent rise in America without hype, skin and lots of b-side grooves. SHOW is a rousing, moving performance for anyone who values great country music delivered by a fabulous singer who is evolving in all sorts of good ways. As a plus, it will also let you show off your audio system because it's beautiully recorded. Buy now, without reservation. |
