| I should not be the first to review this CD, I should be the 1358th or something. I have every Ventures album on vinyl or tape that came out from the time they made their debut up through the 70s. It's a veritable history of music in its own right. This CD covers some of their best work. The only thing that caught me off guard was that the tracks are re-dos, not the original tracks that came out all those wonderful years ago. I was a bit disappointed, but the music is still very good. The guys still have it all together. Nokie Edwards is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. I understand he still tours on his own and makes occasional appearances with the Ventures. He has his own line of guitars and amps now. What took you so long, Nokie!? I especially loved to hear him on that Mosrite 12-string guitar. What a sound! The reason I rated this CD 4 out of 5 stars is because the tracks weren't vintage. I hoped to have those songs all scratch-free and cleaned up. Even so, the new runs are first-class if not vintage and show that the Ventures are still as good as ever. |
