Dimmu Borgir associates themselves with culture Submitted on: 2008-10-06 |

| in addition to Nick's drumming on this album, Dimmu Borgir aligned themselves with an orchestra. you could almost eat a candlelight dinner to this album. song no.2 sounds like it is galloping along. the standout song is "For the World to Dictate Our Death", which is on Century Media's "Metal For The Masses". it doesn't matter who the drummer is for Dimmu Borgir. whether Tjodalv, or Barker, or Hellhammer on the skins, they kick some serious rump. also this album marks the beginning of the guitars and keyboard working with each other. if you like Dimmu Borgir, you also ought to get some Immortal, Naglfar, Borknagar, Rotting Christ, Satyricon, and Unleashed. |

An orchestra?
Brilliant!!!
Just as good as Puritanical.
Start to finish, amazing,unique,brutal.
If your new to Dimmu, this is a great place to start.
A classic.
Vortex's vocals? So good, it hurts.
Barker's drums? Unreal!!!
The rest of the band?
Unequaled by thier peers! |

| Dimmu Borgir Pumps Out An Extremely Heavy Song When They Made "Progenies Of The Appocalypse" They Use A Whole Orchestra Rather Than Just The Classic Electric Bass And Guitar, Drums Etc. Etc. From Begining To End This Album Makes New To Old Metal Heads Band Their Heads All Day Long. Highly Addictive, A Must Have. |

Not Bad Submitted on: 2007-07-11 |

I like this type of music, so I can't give it a bad rating just on that fact alone. However, this particular CD is not up to the five star rating. There is no question these guys have a good thing going, but there is just something lacking.
When I listen to this CD, a lot of the time I am reminded of Cradle of Filth, and even some Borknagar in spots. The playing is excellent and the vocals are not bad. However, after several listens, I cannot dig out any specific melody or riff that sticks with me. Another reviewer said the lyrics sucked so I read some of them. The lyrics are almost incomprehensible, the English ones anyway, but that is not a bad thing as I could care less. I love Finntroll and their lyrics are all in Swedish.
What it boils down to is that this is excellent music but the songs are not that memorable. What stands out is the musicianship, especially my favorite black metal drummer, Nicky Barker. The other musicians are super too, but they can only do so much to rise above the material they have to work with.
Overall, this is still a good CD, just not the best. I like it enough to try another one of their CD's one day, just to see if they can write more memorable stuff. I recommend this for symphonic black metal fans.
