Start Here And Never Finish Submitted on: 2006-09-24 |

"Taking Drugs..." is prime new-fan material for those ready to absorb the importance of Spacemen 3, a 'source' band that ranks right up there with the more conventional likes of proto (insert movement here) artists such as The Stooges and The Velvet Underground.
This particular release is a high-quality (i.e. no rough or uneven sound song-to-song) demo comp comprised mostly from 1986-87 sessions. While "Taking Drugs..." is not an official studio album, the deal-sealer is that this disc offers some of Spacemen 3's more accessable material and a track listing that aces the almightly cohesiveness factor.
"Taking Drugs..." presents the 3's GUITAR songs that re-invent the, by then, crusty recycling of blues - in particular all versions of "2:35" and the all-defining disposition of "Come Down Easy". While the organ-driven classic "Walking With Jesus" is not nailed up here, the newly converted fan of Spacemen 3 will seek out other recordings that contain said song. And then, after all that preperation, there's the magic moment of purchasing Spacemen 3's sitar record. But remember - start here first. And by all means never finish.

Unpretentious, hypnotic, driving rhythm guitars----
ecstatic & meditative, fun, uplifting, with vocals,
honest thrilling music, not over-produced.
It will enhance your good mood. A good CD to play
when you feel like celebrating.
