Just the Best !!! Submitted on: 2004-05-21 |
|
| This is just the best Album I have bought, ever! I found this little jem just before xmas 03 and haven't stopped listening to it since. Today for example I've played the album twice, and that was all the way through without skipping a track. Scared of over playing it and getting sick of it??? No! There is too much talent and emotion in it just to be played and forgotten There is a good and bad side to this Album, the good being that none of the songs apart from Cannonball get played on radio (BBC radio 2) The bad thing is none of the songs really get played on radio, so anyone I know who has heard of Damien Rice has found him through word of mouth, yeah me! Damien blows them all out of the water for his song writing. The musician ship is just way out there, and Lisa Hannigan's voice is just beautiful. When I listen to cold water and her her sing I melt, I haven't really listened to the lyrics to here what they are saying on this song, I just haven't gotten past her voice yet, thats the thing with this album there's layer upon layer of music, lyrics, and emotion. |

painfully good Submitted on: 2004-01-23 |

| Quite simply put, this albulmn will make you ache. Specifically Blower's Daughter and Cannonball will break your heart. Damien's music seems to pull deep emotion up to just below the surface of your skin. His music captures and conveys the bittersweet agony of being in love. Several songs on the albumn nearly brought me to tears. Although I found this to be somehow disturbing I am willing to conceed that this is an indication of a truly stunning musical experience. |

Ireland 2002 Submitted on: 2003-12-15 |
|
| I purchased this cd in July of 2002 in Ireland. The first few tracks are amazing, it ends well with Eskimo as well. There are about 2 tracks that are weak, but overall the cd is outstanding. Definitely not worth $42 if you import, but worth buying. |

Deeply Moving Submitted on: 2003-11-17 |

| Damien Rice with his powerful vocals and emotional lyrics really bring out the everyday ironies that he brilliantly smiles inwardly on. Its compelling and deeply moving. Its truely is worth every cent you spend and you will be amazed with every song......Its something you can pop in and not have to change tracks its that good with the instrumentals and beautiful accompaniments. If you havent noticed I love this cd. |

Heartaching Submitted on: 2003-11-12 |
|
| Lisa Hannigan's voice begins where Damien Rice's ends. They are extensions of each other, combining elements of opera, gregorian chant, and a dramatic quality that could be in the most heart-wrenching of movies. Cold water is utterly desperate, reminding me of something out of an Elizabeth Smart poem, where the characters involved must somehow move on alone, even though tired and broken. Eskimo, towards the end of the album, is more upbeat and playful with a Finnish opera singer coming in at the climax of the song..very cool! A treasured addition to my CD collection. |
