Customer Reviews of This Album/CD

Listening Pleasure!!!!

This collection of songs is excellent and gives many reminders to unforgettable episodes the music was a part of. I wish there was a No. 2 album of this music as this collection covers a nice part of the sound-scape, but not all of the excellent BTVS series musical journey.
It's great... But you already knew that.

Let's be honest. The reason you are even considering buying this CD is because you are a Buffy fan. You're remembering really liking that song in whatever episode(s) and are hoping that this CD will scratch that itch. It does. All too often, a song that you hear on a show or in a movie does not stand well on its own. You remember really liking the song, but when you get the CD you're disappointed because what you really liked was the cinematic moment. I'm happy to say that all of the songs on this compilation stand well on their own. That they may also recall a happy Buffy moment is gravy.

My only ding on this 5-star album is its liner notes. No lyrics was a bummer.
This is an excellent album

This album is rated 5 stars for containing a wealth of strong songs that featured in the popular TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer during its 7-year run from 1996-2003. Many were performed on screen at "The Bronze" - a club in the show's fictional town "Sunnydale" that regularly had live bands playing and served as an important meeting place for may of the characters in the show. This CD is loaded with 21 tracks. Two are soundtrack/ incidental music pieces , while there are two versions of the indie guitar title theme - the original version by Nerf Herder, and a new version by The Breeders. The other tracks are all songs from the indie-rock genre mixed with an equal share of plaintive ballads. Best songs, in my opinion :

Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like You - great rock song gets the CD off to a flying start
Angie Hart - Blue - a lovely quiet ballad featuring the sweet , slightly melancholic vocals of Australia's Angie Hart ( formerly of pop band Frente!)
Alison Krauss - That Kind Of Love - a beautiful song by leading American vocalist
Patty Medina - Still Life - this is a lovely song with great lyrics
Laika - Black Cat Bone - This trippy , spooky song featured prominently in Season 6 in the key scene when major character "Willow Rosenberg" became intoxicated by the power of spellcraft.
Emiliana Torrini - Summerbreeze - A delightful song by this talented Icelandic vocalist
Aimee Mann - Pavlov's Bell - Great song by American singer-songwriter who performed this song with her band at The Bronze in an episode of Season 7.
Nikka Costa - Everybody Got Their Something - THis is a terrific groovy song that played on a stereo at a party scene in an episode of Season 6.

Overall, I think this is an excellent soundtrack that captures the mood of the Buffy show very well . I have been watching all the episodes of Buffy on DVD this year in sequence from Season 1 onwards (we're halfway through Season 7 now) , having never previously watched the show, and this CD has been one of my favourite music albums of 2007.

Do definitely buy this 21-track UK edition CD and also the soundtrack CD from the Season 6 musical episode "Once More With Feeling" if you are at all a fan of the music from this show.
More Complete Than the Domestic Version + Episode Guide

I bought this CD in early 2006 and listened to it obsessively for the better part of a year. The collection is excellent, featuring some of the most memorable songs to play on Buffy, and it makes a great companion to the original Buffy Soundtrack.

Although some of the songs are easy to connect with certain episodes, several of them are harder to place, and thus I present this handy episode soundtrack guide, gathered from John King's note on the CD and various internet sources: (episode number, episode title)

1. Buffy Main Title Theme (new recording by The Breeders)
2. Bohemian Like You (5.11, "Triangle")
3. Everybody Got Their Something (6.6, "All the Way")
4. Dead Guys With Bombs (3.13, "The Zeppo")
5. Key (5.14, "Crush")
6. Sound Of The Revolution (6.15, "As You Were")
7. Ballad For Dead Friends (1.2, "The Harvest")
8. Blue (7.7, "Conversations With Dead People")
9. Pavlov's Bell (7.8, "Sleeper")
10. That Kind Of Love (6.18, "Entropy")
11. Sink Or Float (7.13, "The Killer In Me")
12. Still Life (7.14, "First Date")
13. Black Cat Bone (6.10, "Wrecked")
14. Just As Nice (6.6, "All the Way")
15. I Can't Take My Eyes Off You (5.6, "Family")
16. The Sun Keeps Shining On Me (6.6, "All the Way")
17. Run Away (6.9, "Smashed")
18. Summerbreeze (5.10, "Into the Woods")
19. Sugar Water (2.1, "When She Was Bad")
20. The Final Fight (7.22, "Chosen")

Hope this is helpful! I know I was going crazy trying to figure out where some of these songs were featured in the show. ;)
