This Is How I Learned to Love Country Music Submitted on: 2009-08-25 |

| Before I heard "Elite Hotel" I was an ignorant elitist (sorry). I thought country music was trite. Then I listened to Emmylou Harris sing "'Til I Gain Control Again" and "Satan's Jewel Crown" and "Wheels" and I thought, "perhaps I'm wrong." Then I listened to "One of These Days" every day for about 10 years and I knew I needed educating. This is a beautiful album; it's heartbreaking and rowdy and thoughtful...I could go on, but I'll just say that "Elite Hotel" made me want to explore country and bluegrass music and I am grateful to Emmylou Harris for showing me the light. |

It is hard to write a review for each one of Emmylou's albums, because all of her music is really good!
so just put on your headphone and enjoy it!!!
And if you listened to the samples without headphones and weren't impressed, put on your headphones and listen again!! |

This One's A Winner And You Don't Have To Head Out To Las Vegas To Find Out Why! Submitted on: 2008-11-25 |

Several things will surely jump out at you immediately after your first listen. First off the song selections...From Gram Parson's "Ooh Las Vegas" To "Wheels" to Buck Owens classic "Together Again" and fianally to Lennon McCartney's "Here There And Everywhere".....Sprinkle in a few tried and true country jewels like George Jones "Feelin' Single Actin' Double" and Don Gibson's "Sweet Dreams' and you know you're in for a rare treat. Pieces of The Sky, Emmylou's debut album was a fine outing for the shy young Alabama native. Elite Hotel solidified her credintials as a bonified contemporary country songbird.
I've enjoyed this wonderful old album for years and rejoice finding it reissued in great sounding, clean crisp digitized format. It takes me back to the good ole' days of stacking up my old vinly turntabe with Emmylou, The Byrds and Buritos, New Riders, Arlo Guthrie and Poco. Turn out the lights....Cue up "One Of These Days" and let Emmylou take you back to a kinder, gentiler and decidedly more innocent day. This one's a winner and you don't need to head to out Las Vegas to find out why! |

Sweet Dreams Submitted on: 2008-07-16 |

Emmylou's sensational "Pieces of the Sky" is followed by a great album "Elite Hotel". It's a great album but not as good as "Pieces...". There are many great classics such as "Together Again" and "Here, There And Everywhere". I know that many think this is a classic but for me it hasn't opened me that well yet. I have listened to it more than ten times but "Sin City" and "Wheels" sound still a little bit monotonic. However, Emmylou has a beautiful voice, and no matter what you may think, she is a super country star. There's three songs recorded live: "Ooh Las Vegas", "Sweet Dreams", and "Jambalaya". They all sound good, and I think it was a great idea to record those songs live. When you listen to songs like "Together Again" and "Satan's Jewel Crown", you can be sure that no one can create such a feeling as she. A great recording but Emmylou has even better albums.
Stars: Amarillo, Feelin' Single - Seein' Double, Together Again |
