Great Album for Merle Haggard, April 3, 2012
This review is from: Working in Tennessee (Audio CD)
Every song in his Working in Tennessee album sounds great. I am so glad I purchased this one. What a singer, what a storyteller, his voice is still good.

Great New Release by an American Music Legend, the One & Only Merle Haggard., January 19, 2012
This review is from: Working in Tennessee (Audio CD)
I just got to see "Hag" and his band, last week in Monroe, Louisiana, on the first night of his 2012 tour, promoting this new "Working in Tennessee" album. The concert was great and this new release is a great new album. The "Hag" has still got it, and this new album proves it. Most of the songs on this album are original new songs written by the "Hag" himself or by him and his wife Theresa Haggard. These great new songs continue in the Merle Haggard, style and legacy. Merle Haggard is an integral part of American Music History. During the concert Merle performed the song "Working in Tennesee", after that, I knew I had to buy this album, and I love it. Also, at the concert I bought a T shirt that has a picture of the "Hag" on the front, which looks exactly like the cover of this new album, and on the back of the T shirt it has "Working in Tennessee" with all the songs on the album listed. I love it. This new album contains a couple of collaborations, one of which includes an updated version of his "classic hit" Working Man Blues", which includes the "Hag" along with Willie Nelson, and "Hag's" son, Ben Haggard. Also there is a duet with his wife Theresa on the classic country song "Jackson", which was a hit for John & June Cash. If you like Classic Country &/or Merle Haggard, you'll love this one. Thanks and I hope this review has been helpful.

Still going strong, January 18, 2012
This review is from: Working in Tennessee (Audio CD)
Such a joy that this great great artist continues to put out music for us to enjoy. Simply the greatest country music artist ever. Bar none. And still so relevant. He deserves to be on the radio every day, but sadly today's formula programming won't allow it. Regardless, Merle is the man. Great new record. Buy it.

The Hag!!!, December 8, 2011
This review is from: Working in Tennessee (Audio CD)
The Hag is just like Waylon Jennings was, you just can't get enough of his music. He is 1 of our all time hereos in country music, they just don't make like these o'l boys anymore. This is a great cd, o'l Hag hasn't lost it yet.

Still Around And Still Relevant, November 17, 2011
This review is from: Working in Tennessee (Audio CD)
All the country icons have left or are fading from the scene. The Man In Black and Waylon are gone. Ray Price and the Possum are up there in years and we won't see the likes of them ever again. Today's "country" music is in reality watered down Los Angles rock. But the Hag is still around and coming out, on the average, with one new CD a year. This CD figuratively reminds me of the title old Hank Thompson song "The Older The Violin, The Sweeter The Music". While the music isn't all that sweet and shouldn't be, the old Merle Haggard rebellious spirit is still very much alive. Just listen to "What I Hate" and the cover of the Cash/Carter classic "Jackson" or the very relevant "Under The Bridge". The man improves with age Yes there are sentimental sad songs like "Down On The Houseboat" and "Sometimes I Dream" so there is a "sweet" side to this CD but the most important aspect of the CD is that it demonstrates that real country music is alive and well even if today's "now" DJs won't play it. My favorite song on this compilation is "Too Much Boogie Woogie". On this one he laments about the sad state of today's country music and even criticizes the "Grand Ole Opry' ("and now there's people pickin' on the Opry and we don't know who they're with...too much boogie woogie and not enough Connie Smith"). Hank Williams III tried something similar a few years ago with "The Grand 'Ole Opry Ain't So Grand Anymore". Although on point, that song was cluttered with four letter words and could not be played on the air. "Too Much Boogie Woogie" is clean. Let's see if today's "country" DJs will play it. Don't hold your breath in anticipation. There is only one Merle Haggard! Enjoy his classic material but also consider adding this CD to your collection. It's what should be produced today but won't. Yes, political correctness has taken hold of country music but not the Hag. May he live forever!
