A pretty piece but little else Submitted on: 2009-09-04 |

| I heard "Speck of Gold" on internet radio station, SomaFM out of SanFran and was truly struck between the ears. Fortunately (thanks goodness for capitalism!), soma hyperlinks much of its play list which lead me to (surprise) Amazon. I had sticker shock looking at the price of the out of print CD. Fortunately there's the mp3 download option which is the route I chose otherwise I'd be severely cheesed at dropping 60 clams. Don't get me wrong, this is, barring a track or two, very pretty, well produced, aural wallpaper. But the music has about the same depth as well. Seemingly endless repetitions of the same phrase does not constitute a song. Please don't get in a huff if you're a true believer, I do really like the sound. Just would like a bit more substance. |

A big Label Needs to Pick Afterlife up NOW! Submitted on: 2008-02-28 |

| Simply put everyone I know whom I introduce Afterlife to falls in love with his music. One of the rare down tempo artists that consistently puts out high quality tracks. I cannot comment highly enough about this generous guy - just buy anything he releases/has released to enrich your life in a positive way. Enjoy. |

Blissfull Times Submitted on: 2005-05-23 |

| I love this album... I was fortunate for discovering Afterlife when I started listening to the Cafe Del Mar series.... I loved their song Breather 2000, Falling, and Makes Me Feel so I looked for an album.... I saw Speck of Gold as an import at a CD store and it was pricey but SO WORTH IT. It is a beautifully crafted gem of music that is melodic, blissful, and made for enjoying nature and company with. Feel good, emotionally driven music. I need to find more albums like this! |

Can you dance...in a prone position? Submitted on: 2005-04-03 |

I'm shocked!!...only a few reviews for this one?? All those who bought Simplicity 2000 (and loved it!)...should surely get THIS one!! Lay-back lounge it is indeed...but you can also...well..I'll get to THAT later.
The nuvo-bossa that predominated Simplicity 2000 is kicked up a notch or two here...it's less new-age and more SAMBA-SAMBA, BABY! What do you get when you combine Nu-soul, ambient and bossa??...you get a sensual, smooth confection of sweet nothing named "Smooch". Tito Puente type Congas...synthesizers...female chanting...it's fantastic...it's called "Ozo"! The ballads (Miracle & Speck of Gold) are dreamy/creamy, pass the mimosa perfect...but then on Disc 2...the incredible Cantoma remixes "Miracle", replaces the cream with some added rhythm rum and with his acoustic guitar, takes the whole thing to Ibiza land around 2:47 AM. By the way...if you can get your hands on the CANTOMA CD, don't make the mistake I did and lend it out...I can be a total idiot! One more piece of advice...don't sleep on SOLARIUM/TAPIS ROUGE by Cirque Du Soleil...it has another fabulous remix by Cantoma ("Gamelan") and a percussive, sexy, Middle-Eastern styled remix by Afterlife ("Ombra").
Can you dance in a prone position??...Of course you can...so invite that special someone, hold them close...and one suggestion, SPECK OF GOLD should be playing in the background...but uh, turn the volume UP! |
