Explosive Little

This is a great collection, of the hits, in their best recording and sound quality issue. I mention sound quality and recording, because I purchased previously a gratest hits package that contained different recording versions of the hits - they were studio recordings also, but right away I knew they weren't the actual songs that became hits. But then, that's why it's great to have an audio preview of things that you're interested in buying. And call me old or old-fashioned, but I'm still buying entire packages (which use to be called albums), and later deciding whether or not I want to rip songs to add to my mp3 player.
Anyway, what you hear here is extreme high voltage (albeit raw, and not technologically enhanced with studio tricks and synthezising) energy, that truly matches any Elvis Sun recording or pre-army Elvis RCA recording. For me, the whole package is worthwhile, but if you're not aquianted with Little Richard's catalogue, there's at least 6 super classic gems for the ages. Also, in my case, I bought this hits package because unlike the Beatles or the Stones, I'm not at all familiar with Little Richard's Albums and their listenability/consistency from first to last track.

I recently played Tutti Frutti in back to back Elvis and Little Richard versions, and honestly, it is impossible for me to pick a favorite from those 2 - there both great
Has rare Interview segments; good sound

Collects Specialty (1955-57) and Vee Jay (1964) tracks. Vee Jays are Short Fat Fanny, Hound Dog, Goin' Home Tomorrow, Groovy Little Suzy, Whole Lotta Shakin', and recuts of Baby Face and Oh! My Soul. The last title mentioned is the only rather dismissable effort, though it has bouyancy and [Oh! my] Soul. The listener may agree with me that the master tape is running just a little slow - a small pitch control adjustment makes it better. (Need a turntable or Karaoke machine for that!).
The most interesting cut for Collectors and Historians is "Interview", with material culled from various sources. Here, for the first time, is the short take of "I Believe", recorded for a motion picture in 1972, a great exhibition of Richard's operatic range - on a tune never released by the Architect, one which drove people mad in Las Vegas around 1970.
The hit songs for a reasonable price

This is a great little Richard sampler that covers his middle period, and some later period, these are msotly hits, and thier is a great interview with Little Richard at the end. This is pioneering r&b jump blues music. And all the songs are fun and wild, from the opening classic Lucille(with a horn section) to Hound Dog. You'll Love richards boogie woogie piano style and his screeching vocals(reminiscent almost of Ruth Brown at times!). Many of these songs are on the bluesy(or jump blues side). And msot of the tracks feature a big band bancking up Richard's boogie piano and vocals. GREAT CD!!!
