Original order had incorrect CD inside, Amazon quickly corrected! Great CD Submitted on: 2009-10-14 |

In My original review I gave a one star rating because of a delivery problem. The CD case/liner was correct but the CD inside was wrong. This is a problem with the company producing the product rather rhan the product itself. Amazon quickly rectified this and I tried to raise the rating to 5 stars as I love this CD! Turns out I could not change the star rating on the original review. I am deleting my original review to allow me to change the rating but have included the text below.
UPDATE (10/15/2009) Ok got the replacement item from Amazon (free upgraded shipping) and opened case. This time it contained the correct Platters all time hits CD on the Mercury label. Quality is great and so are the songs. Would change this review to 5 stars based on the actual item and Amazon's great response. Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to change the rating of the item. If anyone knows if this is possible please tell me how and I will do so.
(10/13/2009) Ordered Platters all-time greatest hits, CD inside was Maxwell Black Summer Night. The CD case and liner were correct (Platters All Time Greatest Hits) and sealed but the actual CD inside was not. It contained 9 songs by Maxwell Black? Note this was ordered directly from Amazon not a third party seller on the Amazon site. Currently contacting Amazon, I am quite sure they will accept a return, just hope that they can supply the correct item. I will give an update to this review when I get the actual Platters CD which I am quite sure I will enjoy. Definately don't like the Maxwell Black CD! |

excellent Platter Submitted on: 2009-03-02 |

The Platters is one of those groups with a very long career, spanning decades and substantial personnel changes. And apparently, with lead singer changes, many of their hit songs have been recorded in at least two versions. Add to that recording contract changes, and it's possible to have 4 and 5 versions of certain "Hit" songs.
This particular Hits package is for the most part, all the songs that I'm familiar with - well, when I was a kid, along with my favorite rock stations, I'd also listen to the Oldies radio station, which at the time played music from earlier than the mid-sixties. I say for the most part, because one or two songs aren't sizzling with the same searing vocal I'm more familiar with, but they're nevertheless still great performances. And all the songs are very clean, high quality reproductions - I'm not sure what was involved in terms of re-mastering, cleanup, etc., but the result is very pleasing.
When it comes to the Platters, I think the thing to look for (and the best of the best from this vocal group) is the volume and tonal control from the lead, as well as the style of phrasing, which intensifies the drama of the lyric and the flow of the song. I mean, in the age of overindulgent song-bird vocalizing - which to me, adds nothing to the song, but serves only to show off the singer's ability - these type of vocals seem to come from a long forgotten age of care and craft that really cared for the song's theme and concept. As an example, the lilting delivery of the lead on Twilight Time, along with the volume adjustment for dramatic emphasis, appears almost effortlessly sung, but is one of the vocal performances for the ages - just golden.
Highlights on this Hits collection are: Only You, The Great Pretender, (You've Got) the Magic Touch, My Prayer, I'm Sorry, Twilight Time, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, and I Love You 1,000 Times...all the songs are very good, but for me those are the gems. |

musicor years m3p Submitted on: 2009-01-18 |

I give this album 2 stars only because The Platters recorded some great bilboard pop songs for the Musicor label in the 60's that we danced to; I love you 1000 times, With this ring and Washed ashored to name a few. I do not like the endings of these songs that the Mercury label rearranged ........ especially I love you 1000 times they cut off the best part of the end when he was wailing Wheeeee i I love I love I love you baby every every time i write a letter i think of you......
Pleazze Put the original Musicor recorings on m3p or i pod I see these original Musicor songs only on certain albulms in Amazon (that can't be downloaded). Everywhere i search on line for the Musicor years of the Platters these recorings are not avaiable for m3p or ipod. Whats up with that? |
