Comparison of Les Mis Soundtracks Submitted on: 2009-09-12 |
|
| Before seeing Les Miserables in New York in June of 1987, I totally learned the pieces from the London soundtrack so I would be familiar with the music when I saw the play. Then I bought the Original Broadway Cast soundtrack at the theatre after I saw the play, so I am sentimental about both the recordings. However, I also have the 10th Anniversary DVD and it is so much better than either the London or the Broadway soundtracks. Of course, we have the visual to go along with the music but the orchestra is also much better than in either of the soundtracks. Even though all the scenery is not there, the actors are in costume and the audience gives the energy which the London and Broadway recordings do not have. I think both of those recordings were done in sound studios and of course they aren't going to be like the 10th Anniversary version. I have recently replaced my old Les Mis LP albums with CDs and I just love all three of the presentations. We really shouldn't compare the soundtracks with the 10th Anniversary concert. That should stand alone. Compare the two soundtracks only. Again, I love all three. |

My All-time Favorite Musical Submitted on: 2009-08-30 |
|
| My all-time favorite musical! That is a big statement because my collection of cast recordings is quite extensive and I have performed in about 40 different musicals, but this one just has that undefinable quality that puts it above all others. I enjoy all the recorded versions and have seen various professional and amateur productions, there have been some performances that have been better than others but I still enjoy it every time. Of this recording - the only thing missing is the excellent performance of Philip Quast as Javert. But why stop at this version, get them all! |

It was sad, but also very uplifting. Hope was always the word. Hope Submitted on: 2009-06-01 |

| I had Les Miserables in video. But, it was misplaced. The music is terrific and so moving. Just imagine spending nineteen years in prison for stealing some bread. I chose the 10 anniversary. I had seen it along time ago on tv and never forgot it. I would recommend this dvd for anyone who like music. |

| I bought this for my 12 year old after we saw a high school production of "Les Mis" She hasn't stopped playing it since. The vocals are terrific, the insert explains the story well and the singers are the ones who made their roles famous. I would recommend this to everyone who enjoys the show. |
