THE BEST CHRISTMAS ALBUM EVER!
Submitted on: 2009-11-18
The Andy Williams Christmas Album is by far the BEST Christmas album ever recorded. While many Christmas albums have faded over time, this Christmas Album has withstood the test of time. You turn on the radio at Christmastime and you hear many of the songs on this album! While other artists have only a couple of Christmas songs, Andy has many and this album contains some of the best! The Andy Williams Christmas Album with many of the greatest Christmas songs like "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year". These songs are classics and who better to sing them then Mr. Christmas himself. This is a fantastic album and I am only 18 years old, and I grew up listening to it as did my parents and my grandparents and my kids will too! It is THE CLASSIC Christmas Album! The Andy Williams Christmas Album is the BEST Christmas Album!
There's no Christmas like an Andy Williams Christmas

Andy Williams is the best! When it comes to Christmas, he's even better! His wonderful character and personna shines through on this as well as all of his Christmas albums. This album as well as "Merry Christmas" have a great blend of secular and sacred songs. The "Christmas Present" album (I've never understood why it has not been remastered by Sony) has mostly Christmas carols and is beautifully done. "I Don't Believe in Santa Claus" is a later album, but is still very enjoyable and includes mostly popular secular holiday songs.

Having seen several of Andy's live Christmas shows over the last 15-20 years has really been a treat. He usually sings a few songs from each of his holiday albums, it brings back such memories of Christmases past, and he really makes you appreciate what Christmas is all about. He's a real class act.

The only other current artist that gives me that same, optimistic, good feeling when listening is David Archuleta from American Idol. He like Andy has so much character, and it shines through in his new Chrismas album, "Christmas from the Heart".

Thanks so much, Andy, for all of the good memories, and for being true to yourself all of these years.
Essential Crooner Christmas CD

Just as with the 'green' Andy Williams christmas album, MERRY CHRISTMAS (from 1965), this 1963 'red' christmas album, THE ANDY WILLAIMS CHRISTMAS ALBUM, is an essential christmas cd to own if you like the old 'crooner' christmas sound from the 1950's and 1960's, especially if you like JOHNNY MATHIS and JACK JONES. It is orchestra and chorus backed so you really are getting the 'full' christmas sound of the great 'crooner' christmas albums of yesteryear.

Great versions of songs such as WHITE CHRISTMAS, THE CHRISTMAS SONG, AWAY IN A MANGER, as well as a rare one, KAY THOMPSON'S JINGLE BELLS. But the biggest delight and best song on this album is ANDY WILLIAMS' greatest and most popular christmas song and one of the standards of christmas songs, IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR. Great, upbeat singing by both ANDY WILLIAMS and the backing chorus with very upbeat and joyful orchestra music from the orchestra. This is as christmasy as christmas music can get but I'm sure anybody reading this knows this by now.

While I edge the 'green' christmas album out over this 'red' one, believe it or not, due to a tad bit more christmas power to my liking (which is kinda unbelievable due to the christmasy power that this one has), this is a definite christmas cd to own and really goes great with the 'green' album since they really flow nicely from one to the other.

Music is good, however; the CD case was damaged when it arrived. The CD case was cracked in several places. Amazon shipped the CD in a padded envelope rather than a protective cardboard box.
One of the best Xmas albums; how about more with Wms. Bros?

"The Andy Williams Christmas Album" is a great collection -- no question about it. If you like Christmas music and don't have it, buy it right now. I'm only sorry that I didn't hear it until this excellent-sounding remastered version came out in 2004, when I bought it on a whim. It's undoubtedly one of the best CDs in our 200-album Christmas collection, and one that we play often during the holidays.

But in case someone (even Andy himself) is reading this and wants an idea for another Christmas album, I just want to second the previous reviewer's call for an album with Andy joined by his brothers on holiday classics.

I was extremely impressed by the Williams Brothers' harmonizing on the aforementioned Andy Williams Christmas DVD, and would love to hear more. How about putting out a CD with recordings from those very 1960s Christmas shows?

I happened to catch the very young Andy and his brothers in a 1940s movie called "Janie" on TCM recently, and they were extremely good. Unfortunately, it seems almost impossible to find anything by the group on CD. (I believe they provided backing vocals on Bing Crosby's hit, "Swinging on a Star," but that's the only appearance I know of by the Williams Brothers on CD.)

Anyway, to get back to the album at hand, "The Andy Williams Christmas Album" is, without question, one of the very best in the holiday genre. Despite what the Amazon.com reviewer says, Andy's voice is far better than just "average," and both the song selections and the arrangements here are topnotch.

"Kay Thompson's Jingle Bells" is a particular favorite of mine -- when I first heard it, I was amazed at how much it reminded me of Phil Spector's Wall of Sound, a very solid, driving arrangement that grabs you and never lets go. (Andy and his brothers performed in Ms. Thompson's nightclub act early in their career.)

And you can't go wrong with any of the other performances on this album. "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" is certainly the best recording of this wonderful song, and Andy's versions of oft-heard songs like "White Christmas" and "The Christmas Song" are among the finest. "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is given a very creative arrangement that turns a usually long and somewhat tedious song into an entertaining treasure. (Listen for the bass voice of Thurl Ravenscroft, better known for his singing in the original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas.") Not a bad cut on this album -- in fact, all are great.

This album is a classic that belongs in the collection of everyone who loves Christmas music.
