Great Electronica Music Submitted on: 2008-12-25 |

| Great catchy beats, all very original. I recommend this to people who like to listen to drum and bass and electronica types of music. I also listen to Pendulum, DJ Fresh, Dieselboy, Andy C, Sub Focus and The Freestylers. |

What Is What Submitted on: 2008-12-02 |

REALIZE. Lincoln Barrett aka High Contrast created quite a few historical d&b albums, released over 25 Vinyl singles, remixed & produced big number of established tunes, He simply appears on every most important d&b compilation.
I heard it all. High Contrast - High Society is melodic & atmospheric album, but frankly leaving not too many thoughts. It's just OK release. Me is gonna come back to only 4 songs ever from this:
01. Lovesick
04. Brief Encounter
09. Twilight's Last Gleaming
11. Yesterday's Colours
My this-seconds suggestion is - get High Contrast - Essential Mix (2007) for free & see what's what.
Stay happy. |

Awesome CD Submitted on: 2007-12-07 |

| This CD is amazing and definitely worth adding to your collection. The basement track is a wonderful song, lots of vocals on the whole CD(which I like) and makes you want to get up and dance. Probably not for the hard D&B fan. |

Almost 5 stars Submitted on: 2007-05-05 |

High Contrast's debut "True Colors" has shaken and revived the DnB-scene in a time when it was though to be dead. Beside Roni Size' "New Forms" it is my favorite DnB-album. I have to say that I am one of the few who think that "True Colors" is better than "High Society".
Don't get me wrong, High Society is an amazing album. It is highly inventive, bringing elements into DnB which have not been used in this genre before. Tracks are highly structured and some have a strange 80's new wave feel. Gone is the funk and the jazz which were so prevalent in True Colors, tracks have become even more melodic. If not for the fast beat, many of them are close to being mainstream compatible.
Not all songs are hits, and at some points the album bores me a little. Given the CD is over 70 minutes long, that is quite natural though. It does not change my mind: High Contrast is probably the best producer/DJ in the DNB-genre at the moment. Get this album, all his others, and also consider the other artists at Hospital records, most notably Nu:Tone and London Elektricity.

D & B on a higher level. Submitted on: 2006-12-12 |

| High Contrast has really put something special together here. High Society is the best D & B album I've heard since the mid 90's. 'Lovesick' is the first & quite possibly the best track. 'Brief Encounter', 'Racing Green', and 'Twilight's Last Gleaming' are my other favorites, but every track is worth a listen. Essential listening for bassheads. |
