Customer Reviews of This Album/CD

A good effort
Submitted on: 2009-01-21
Vordul shines in this disk. He chose some decent beats on here and there are some good guest spots. There are a few lulls in the excitement, but the album is consistent. I really like his flow and delivery. He's fun to listen to. It is nowhere near Cold Vein, but it's a damn good effort. Well worth it, especially if you buy it used from the Marketplace.
Good Album

The only reason I gave this album 4 stars is cause it got to the end before I was ready. All the songs are great, but one that really stands out to me is Meagallah. He is a very deep artist and his lyrics reflect the way it is in real life.
Solid Release From an Under Appreciated Artist

When most people think of Cannibal Ox the first things that come to mind are Vast Aire's unconventional (though undoubtably intoxicating)stlye/wordplay and EL-P's groundbreaking post apocalyptic production. Sadly, Vordul just seems to slip through the cracks in listeners palates. Coupled with Vast Aires copious solo projects and exposure since "Cold Veins" release I fear that most fans are more than willing to write off Vordul Mega as just another MC in a sea brimming with them. No more. No less. Not only is this a foolish path to go down, it's no where near the truth. Anyone with an ear for quality underground hip-hop will agree with me after one spin of Revolution of Yung Havoks.

"I've been had nicotine in my system since the teen riffin, mom's and pop's strugglin..." Vordul wastes no time grabbing your attention and makes it very clear what you are getting yourself into from the first rhyme dropped. This is street wise hip hop told directly from one man's firsthand experience. Each flow drips with truth and is delieverd in an impecciable smooth stream. Few MC's can match his mic prowess. As far as the beats are concerned, the word that comes to mind is solid. They remind me of early/mid 90's wu tang (dark dungeon beats based in equally dark soul samples). They remain consistent throughout the album setting a certain vibe that doesn't break which I feel is imperative. The most important thing is that they push Vordul's rhyme's to the forefront which is where they should be. All in all this creates a solid effort that is top notch compared to most hip hop coming out these days.

I gave this album four stars because the album might be good but there is always room for improvement which is exciting considering the quality that he is at already. So I recommend that you pick up this album especially if you are into gritty, streetwise underground hip hop (particularly of the nyc variety). Also, be on the lookout. Vordul's follow up album "Mega Graphitti" is hitting stores August 19th 2008. There are two singles available online, the title track as well as "AK-47". They are both very impressive and show that he is working hard to always improve and put out his best effort (peep em). Pick it up and give this slept on MC his due.

The tip of an iceberg
Submitted on: 2006-05-13
This CD is exceptional and deserves a very high rating; however, it is only the tip of an iceberg of talent that is going to change the world of hip hop forever.

Vordul is one of the best MCs in the game and this solo work is just scratching the surface. He is part of the revolutionary Cannibal Ox (with Vast Aire) and also does songs on a number of other albums (look for The Reavers (5 stars), Dreddy Kruger, Billy Woods, and others for great Vordul songs). The best thing about Vordul is his completely unique flow which invokes the best of Nas, GZA, and Tupac at the same time. It is slow and fast at the same time. Most importantly, this ridiculous flow is matched with the ability to lace great lyrics.

I never respected Vordul's full lyrical ability on his Can Ox stuff, but since hearing this album and his other stuff you have to respect the full manifestation of an MC. His lyrics are better than almost anyone else in the underground and when matched with his flow leaves the listener completely zoned in on the songs.

Although this album is not a concept album in any way, listening to the songs together gives the feeling of a complete album. This is rare for underground MCs to be able to put together an album that fits together and feels like the songs were chosen rather than just thrown together. For those of us that still respect records, it is nice to have an album which flows as a whole. I can't think of any release in hip hop in the last 10 years that has put itself together this well. This is a welcome return to the feeling of the early hip hop, although the lyrics and production push this to its extremes.

Finally, the production is excellent on the album. It is dramatically different than his Can Ox album; the beat is less ambient and more banging. The strange thing is that the beats here really play up his solo work and bring out the complete feeling that the cd invokes.

I know I've written a lot and hope it has been helpful. However, even though I dig this album and all of Vordul's other work, I'm still waiting for more stuff to come out. If this is the tip of the ice berg, we will be yelling "Holla Ill" for years to come.

Top 3 tracks: 1. Hell Yeah, 2. Holla Ill, 3. Blade
