Regina Spektor creates a musical painting, a colorful stroke of genius... Submitted on: 2009-11-02 |

Regina Spektor has a gift that very few artists have. Listen to "Soviet Kitsch" and you will see vivid and colorful pictures, painted by her lyrics. And those lyrics have an unusual, original, and refreshing delivery. Her words coupled with her piano hold a lot of depth and gravity, which is interesting because what she sings can be somewhat simple at times. Whether it is accidental or intentional, it is very clever nonetheless.
The music alone is quite a melodic accomplishment. The chords are mostly complex, conveying interesting and difficult feelings from Regina while bringing forth untapped emotions from the listener(but you need to have an open mind, open ears, and a heart).
The songs of "Soviet Kitsch" carry along smoothly providing a very complete and satisfying experience. In the end, it is a definite masterpiece, a showcase for the potential of the anti-folk scene and the power of music in general!
5 Stars!

By Far Her Best Album! Submitted on: 2009-04-12 |

By far her best album! Now, that being said, she is not for everybody! She's anchovies in a world of vanilla ice cream. Quirky, fun, intense, dark, lighthearted, just lovely. I would suggest listening to songs like Ghost of Corporate Future, Carbon Monoxide, Us and The Flowers. That will kind of give you an idea of what's to come.
Her songs don't always come together in clear pictures (but I'm a big fan of Tori Amos as well, so that doesn't bother me). You can just feel where she's going. Other times, they are as clear as day. She has fun with her voice and vocal sounds. Experimenting seems to be very important to her.
Just so cute! Check her out on youtube - you've got to see her play or in interview. You'll fall in love. |

not enough info Submitted on: 2008-08-08 |

| I wish more info, or a rating, had been given this music CD. I threw it in the garbage after receiving it due to the vulgar language. I would not listen to it in the presence of my two young sons, nor do I enjoy hearing that kind of language myself. |

Better than a Cold War Submitted on: 2008-05-20 |

This is wonderful. "Us" is a perfect song. One that you hear 20 years later and realize that it is a classic. But there are other great songs too. "Ghost of Corporate Futures" and "Poor little rich Boy" are my favorites.
She captures something real in "Carbon Monoxide" and "Chemo Limo". Buy everything you can find from Regina. |
