Sweet and Gentle Debut Submitted on: 2007-10-11 |
|
Carly Goodwin's debut album is sweet, gentle, and heartfelt. She writes and sings the themes of heartbreak, tears, and loss, but also presents a contemporary spin on very traditional material. Even some western swing makes an appearance here. Willie Nelson's appearance is significant; Carly's no Patsy Cline, but she holds her own here. Its an excellent version, and they sound very comfortable together. "Crazy" was a hit in Europe and should have garnered more attention here. By the way, Carly has been a military favorite, touring the world supporting the troops.
As for the rest of the songs, they're pleasant- just maybe not remarkable enough to separate Goodwin from the pack. "Destination Heartache" is upbeat, danceable country, "Was It As Hard To Be Together" is a fantastic duet-style tune with producer Carl Jackson. Co-written by talented writer/vocalist Rebecca Lynn Howard, this is the perfect vehicle for Carly. If you could still hear real country on the air, this would have been a hit. I mean if Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow's "Picture" could be a hit, why not this? I love the instrumentation and Carly's delivery of "Just Another Mountain," traditional, yet uptempo and fun. "Until Then" is a traditional steel guitar/fiddle twang fest featuring singer Jon Randall. This may be what Carly does best- a proclaimation of love in country's finest tradition. |

Goodwin Can Get Better Submitted on: 2007-08-14 |
|
| Carly Goodwin's self-titled album is OK, but not much more. There's not much on here that really got my attention or got me humming along. Carly's voice is fine, but still kinda girlie, not fully mature. The content of the songs is unexceptional. Destination Heartache is the only really good tune on here, a nice upbeat country tune. A little maturing and Carly might have something really good. She's not there yet. |

Tried and true...and awaiting something new? Submitted on: 2006-02-09 |

| Carly has a wonderfully colorful voice. When I first heard her sing on her debut album, I thought; "Wow, this kid has some talent..." But...it's been about two years now and still no follow-up album? Was this it....a one-trick pony of a career? I certainly hope not. |

For The Troops Submitted on: 2006-01-14 |

| I saw her for the first time while performing live at a USO concert for the troops in Iraq. She was AMAZING! Her voice was magnificent and her wonderful spirit was so prevalent in her music. I wasted no time buying her CD...My personal favorites on her debut album are "Just Another Mountain" and "New Night Dawning." She is bound to be the next big thing in country music. Keep rockin' Carly!! |

Real Country with volume Submitted on: 2005-07-08 |

| I believe Carly's gift will move her into the realm of great Country Western stars. I heard Carly for the first time on stage in Jefferson City, Missouri, and wasted no time buying her CD. I am looking forward to her next effort, as this kid can pull you right into the music she sings. Carly has made this grandpa a believer. |
