Excellent for what it is. Submitted on: 2009-07-22 |

First off, let me just say that 9/10 of the bad reviews given to this album are likely from under-18 high school kids who are stuck in their trendy (even though being untrendy seems to be the trend these days) world in which they hate everything that they don't like because it's their way of establishing their identity within a peer subgroup (i.e. metal heads, punks, etc). For example, the moron who ranted about how we shouldn't listen to Linkin Park because they aren't "real metal". I don't recall anyone saying they bought this album because they were seeking a "real metal album". The truth is, you never purchased the album at all, you just hate it because it's popular. You created a list of bands that ALL SOUND IDENTICAL, with the exception of Metallica (which was somehow at the bottom of your list of great metal bands, because in the metal inner-circle it's also cool to hate Metallica) Now, moving on.
What we have here are to similar but very diverse artists that created a mash up album mixing their more popular singles together and sharing lyrics/beats/music from both to create new sounding tracks. This is not intended to be a collection of new songs. So, for what it is it's fantastic. I am neither a huge fan of Linkin Park or Jay-Z, but when they combined their tracks together they created something that is both catchy in sound, powerful and modern. There isn't a bad track on the album and it's great to listen to. It's about as good as it could possibly get as far as combining the talents of Linkin Park and Jay-Z goes. Therefore I give it 5 stars. If you are a fan of Linkin Park I could see you enjoying it more than a Jay-Z fan would, but even if you enjoy hearing their songs on the radio from time to time, check this album out. It will not disappoint. |

I think this a ok album. Except there's only six songs. and a video.
There should have been a lot more songs (like 15).
Dirt Off Your Shoulder / Lying from You : grade B+
Big Pimpin' / Papercut : grade D-
Jigga What / Faint : grade B
Numb / Encore : grade A
Izzo / In the End : grade B

Quite possibly the best mash-up album of this decade... Submitted on: 2007-12-19 |

This is just awesome, I was a HUGE LP fan until "Minutes to Midnight" came around, but when this came out I thought they were on the TOP of their game! I mean, WOW! All the talent on this CD is PHENOMENAL!
The main reason why I am rating this a PERFECT 5/5 is because of the time it took to do this! I mean, they (Linkin Park and Jay-Z), were given like a 2 week deadline to make a whole CD, DVD, and perform a tour at the same time! COMMITMENT!
Being a musician myself, I admire this album and I am influenced by every aspect, and like I said, it really isn't about the music on this one, it is mainly about the talent and commitment all the crew had...
Now "Minutes to Midnight," well that is a horrible sad story... Let's just say I no longer am a hard core fan... More of a hater of LP now... But that's not relevant to this album!
PERFECT 10 HERE! You are NOT wasting your money! |
