Excellent first full album from Eisley Submitted on: 2008-10-21 |

I discovered this band by recommendation from a friend on youtube. They are hardly known at all in the U.K. so I was amazed when I heard the incredible sounds on this album. There isn't a bad track on it. The band are brother and sisters from Tyler U.S.A. and they have a small but fiercely loyal fan base which is growing and I can see why. It took no time at all for these songs to become my favourite to listen to. The blending of Sherri and Stacy's voices is really beautiful and from the moment the soaring melody of 'memories' reached my ears I was entranced.
I have rapidly gone from "never heard of them" to "I absolutely love Eisley!" Highly recommended. |

Wonderfully Different Music. Submitted on: 2008-09-28 |

| Both me and my best friend have to agree that Eisley is one of our favorite female fronted bands. The music is just another one of those bands that have their own true, unique sound. The music isn't bland, but far from it. I love the stories and meanings behind their songs. Sometimes I feel like I'm actually listening to a story being read. I absolutely love that factor in their music. They're an amazing band. Everyone should buy this CD! It's great. Favorites include Telescope Eyes (love the meaning behind this song), Memories, Marvelous Things, and Brightly Wound. 5 Stars. |

So Beautiful It Hurts Me Slightly Submitted on: 2007-09-14 |

Oh man.
A few years ago, one of my friends who sort of follows indie music burned me some CDs to listen to, and after puttering around a bit, I eventually got around to listening to them. All of a sudden, I was like, "What is this? What am I listening to?", and my iTunes informed me that it was a band named "Eisley." I started listening to it in my car wherever I went, starting telling people about it, and started religiously going to their website in a sort of astounded daze of "Where have you been all my life and how did I survive until now?" Well, maybe not that far, but it has been years since a band has caught my attention with such zeal and ardor. I really was hooked. Another of the bands on the CDs was "Keane" which is also very good and I liked very much, but Eisley has a sort of an organic, homegrown, band-next-door kind of feel which makes them immediately accessible (perhaps it's the journal entries and pictures that Boyd DuPree posts up frequently), and amazingly likable.
Since listening to them, I have turned other friends into rabid Eisley fans, and have seen them multiple times live (They give the greatest concerts.) But enough about them: This CD is fantastic. It is a diamond in the rough. At times it almost hurts to listen to. It's a bit of "My So-Called Life"'s Angela Chase's vulnerability and "You're so beautiful; it hurts to look at you," vibe and some of Roberta Flack's "Strumming my pain with his fingers" kind of melancholily yearning ache. Or maybe it's just that one of the lyrics in "Golly Sandra" is "You look so beautiful it hurts me slightly." Most likely it is some combination of all three.
I'm sure that in the 100 some odd reviews that have been given, everything that can be said about them has already been said, but I would just like to add my two cents. There really is something here. Something about this CD works, and stirs the senses, and ... gets you really rearing. And it's very exciting to know that this is a band that is still somewhat small, still plays in venues where you won't get moshed to death, and still has the humility to acknowledge and respond to their fans. At the Silent Movie Theater in Los Angeles a couple months ago, I saw Sherri DuPree just chilling outside the band's RV and casually talking to someone. They get excited about drinking boba tea and tired from walking for blocks and blocks to get to the Beverly center. They're very ... human, still.
Anyway, back to the CD, the harmonizing is beautiful and elegant and mildly haunting in an alluring kind of way, and very much in a you-want-to-sing-along-and-you-choose-to-be-Sherri-or-Stacy (this isn't just me, right?) No one person ever dominates for too long and for some reason the songs don't sound at all formulaic or contrived. Again, there really is something here. And it's different. And new. And refreshing. And wonderful. Do, please get in on the act. They might be touring in your city any day now. You do not want to miss out. |
