This review refers to the original release of "Pathogenic" from Intense Records, and so does not include the bonus tracks on this item.
Even after nearly twenty years, this album still enthralls me and has lost none of its initial appeal and charm. With a wide range of lyrical content, Tourniquet created one of their more innovative albums with this one.
The tracks on this cutting include:
1. Impending Embolism
2. Pathogenic Occular Dissonance
3. Phantom Limb
4. Ruminating Virulence
5. Spectrophobic Dementia
6. Gelatinous Turbercles of Purulent Ossification
7. Incommensurate
8. Exoskeletons
9. Theodicy on Trial
10. Descent in the Maelstrom
11. En Hakkore
12. The Skeezix Dilemma
If you are wondering about the words, you are not alone! I had to grab a dictionary. One of the members of the band was working in a hospital at the time of writing, (as volunteer or worker, I cannot remember), and thus the inspiration behind many of the songs. For example, "Pathogenic" is about the spiritual blindness of people and the way the "scales fall, the cataracts desist".
Among my personal favourites: "Theodicy on Trial", (a great companion song to Jung's Answer to Job: (From Vol. 11, Collected Works) (Jung Extracts)), which is about Job, of course. "The Skeezix Dilemma" is also a fantastic song, though listen to it beyond the introduction before you skip it. It does develop well.
The musicianship is excellent, and each song is radically different from the others on the album. The vocals are all clean, which combines well with the music, making for an excellent metal experience.
"Pathogenic" remains a classic and after 15 years, I still flog this CD to death. I have yet to tire of it, making it one of the best choices I have ever made.
