Amazing Submitted on: 2008-01-19 |

I think it's amazing how these dudes have managed to put together a couple of "Unreleased Tracks, B-Sides and Remixes" and still ended up with an album so incredibly good to listen to. The three remixes ("The Yo-Yo", "Nighttime Maneuvers" and "The Way You Do It") are of songs from The Listening, the album that preceded this one and there are hints on here of the phenomenal The Minstrel Show, the album that was to come after it. The first two remixes work for me, the third not so much but it's all the other previously unheard songs that really impressed me. As always, the 9th Wonder productions are my favourites but other producers - Khrysis, Ill Mind, Nicolay & Young Guru really step up to the plate.
I've been a hip-hop fan (of sorts) for a few years now and I've heard great hip-hop that's fun and I've heard great hip-hop that's deep. These guys are in a class of their own though, in my humble opinion. Maybe it's the samples 9th uses, maybe it's his production methods - his use of voices, deep bass and so forth - but LB's music is unique in that it always seems to hit me on an emotional level. I can't explain why or how but their music never fails to move me.
So, we have 18 songs about life & people that steer clean away from the empty and fraudulent excesses of many of today's mainstream artistes. On the downside, their incessant use of the N-word is ever noticeable, as is their seemingly one-dimensional view of women. But the music is so good and LB's southern humour is so infectious, it almost doesn't matter. Regular collaborators Joe Scudda, Chaundon, Darien Brockington and Yahzarah are all here and there are also appearances from O-Dash, Big Daddy Kane, Supastition and L.E.G.A.C.Y.
Simply amazing. And to think I might still not know about these cats to this day had Amazon not helpfully pointed me in their direction. I've never seen any of their videos on MTV Base. What's that about? |

CAROLINA HIP-HOP! THIS IS NO JOKE! Submitted on: 2008-01-02 |

| Released in 2005 right before their monster album "The Minstrel Show" this gave you a little preview of what was upcoming....These are mainly the B-sides and cuts that didn't make "The Minstrel Show" but I guess Little Brother said why discard good music....When you've got plenty of it you should share it....I'm so happy they made that decision...The first cut "WAR" is Phonte/Big Pooh just spitting over 9th Wonder's incredible production....My favorite cut on the album is "Nighttime Maneuvers"...which mainly features Phonte and 9th.....WOW!! Even Big Daddy Kane makes an appearance on "Welcome To Durham"....This should be 6 stars not 5.....If you love Hip-Hop music the way it's supposed to sound and not the GARBAGE that's released today....if lyrics and beats mean anything to you then pick this up now and you'll find it very hard to put down just like me! |

Remix Sounds Better.... Submitted on: 2007-11-20 |

| well ....C.C. 1.5 is quite a bit better than "The Listening"...which is a good cd in its own right...I truly think the remix joints on this one from "The Listening" are much doper on the productions side being that the vocals are the SAME...which im not madd at ...I would re-buy this before I re-buy "The Listening" which I might not do if I lost the cd...but DEF. "Chillin Circuits 1.5" re-play all day....tracks like.."What You Do".."War"... "The Yo-YO(remix)".."Night Time Maneuvers"...yeah...just buy the cd is GREAT! |

A Hip-Hop Classic! Submitted on: 2007-08-04 |

Anyone who has given this album anything less than 5 stars are obviously out of touch with what constitutes a great album. This is by far one of the best Hip-Hops albums I have ever heard, there is not one song on here that I would want to skip pass. The subject matter is diverse, the flows are consistent, the lyrical content is superior to most ppl who brag about being good rappers but fall short of the glory as they try too hard to be metaphoric as to wow! the listeners.
With Little Brother you can definitely hear the continuation of genuine Hip-Hop unmolested by radio hype or corperate pressure to mimic what is the lastest mainstream fad. This album lives up to every catagory that a Hip-Hop album should live up to, to be considered and confirmed as a classic! So, in my opinion Little Brother should definitely pushed this mixtape album off as their sophmore effort considering that it is their best work to me. Nuff said! |
