The great elusive King era Submitted on: 2008-07-16 |

| Mostly blues, all great, small band, solo. It does include the mega-hit "Tomorrow Night" but it concentrates on deep blues. The sound is good, too. You will want more of this King Records-era Lonnie. Good luck! |

Only one of his King hits included- What a shame Submitted on: 2007-03-31 |

The great Lonnie Johnson who had been around performing and playing his guitar for over 20 years before signing with Syd Nathans King records in the late 40's scored only 4 R&B hits with that label between 1948 and 1950. So why is only one of those hits included on this cd titled
"The Very Best Of" ? After "Tomorrow Night' hit #1 on the R&B charts in 1948 he recorded the beautiful 'Pleasing You (As Long As I Live) and took it all the way to #2 on the R&B charts ( By the way-the beautiful "Pleasing You" is available on the King Records box set-they know how to make money don't they ? )-certainly this song is one of his best but you won't find it on this cd- why ? The following year he hit the top 10 with "So Tired'-guess what-it ain't here. Then in 1950 Lonnie hit #11 with "Confused'- again not here. Certainly you would think a compilation of an artists "Best Of' would include his most successful ie, money making recordings for that record label-but not here. Save your money and look elsewhere- just another company trying to rip you off with an highly inaccurate title. |
