Deadline records lives up to it's name-Deadline. They dust manage to dust off and with the help of duct tape and crazy glue put together compilations and cover tunes from many bands. This anthology focus on "Furious George Lynch", best known for his quality years as lead guitarist with Dokken. He is by far one of the living legends of guitar and the metal genre today.
In this collection, deadline has found many rare, and never before put on CD songs, all of which I find unique and good in there own way. I am a huge dokken fan, so this album was a no brainer to buy to get the hard to find Dokken songs. Some of the Lynch Mob songs (tracks 5-8 on disc 2) are also very good and interesting.
However, what seriously hold this album down is the production quality. These are live and bootleg songs for the most part, so the beginning material is tough to work with. But deadline put no money into re-mixing and trying to improve what they have. They do what they do best, scavange, copy, and mass produce. And, as always, the lable has many type-o's and missing information (track 9 on disc two-left off back cover-embarassing). I expected this when I bought this album, because I own many other deadline items. Cinderella, lynch mob, paul diano LA Guns, amongst others are being milked by this label. It's tough to believe Icarus Witch are here on this lable (they are not bad).
Highlights: Dokken-Going Under, Dokken-Cry Again instrumental, Exciter-Paris Is Burning, Lynch Mob-If God Could Here Me Now, Dust instrumental, S.A.T.O. with Icarus Witch. Plus, to hear two pop tracks, bruising me and bulldog tyranny, with keyboards, beat boxes, and almost rapping, is cool.
If you are a part time fan of Lynch/Dokken, stay away, save your money. If you have to own everything like me, take a chance, the posterity of the songs, and the history of Lynch is well told here.

I love George. I have always loved his peculiarly "dark sound" and the way he always seems to get so much out of even the simplest riff. His solos have ALWAYS been a showstopper; Tooth and Nail! But this product is GARBAGE. Save yourself, please. I was able to recoupe my money, well most of it on eBay by selling this mess.
Ok, Disc 1 has ONE decent song on it; the inst. "Cry Again". Most of the rest "could have" been "fair" or even interesting but the production quality is HORRENDOUS. The live stuff being particularly bad. You even hear in some cases the tape being practically eaten as this junk was transferred. Surprisingly, even the Dokken stuff sounds ratty and muddled.
Disc 2: Better, but still not really worth owning beyond a few songs; Round and Round is good but the original is far better, S.A.T.O. is actually brillant (but then it always was a GREAT song:), Paranoid sounds good, production-wise but I have never really liked the song (why not choose something more demanding George!), the REST is utter garage-sounding GARBAGE!! 4 good songs out of 30 is a very bad average in my book.
Please do not even CONSIDER buying this cd set unless A. you are Georges mom, or B. you were in these groups and want some memories!
Cool with the Boyz & Xciter tracks, 3 good tracks from Dokken, one from Lynch Mob, a few gems and too much wasted space!!! Submitted on: 2005-12-26
Buyer beware. You have to be a fan of George Lynch, of his guitar work to appreciate this release. Any Dokken or Lynch Mob fan, like myself will be disappointed by the songs on here. (But I've always loved George's playing.) Should have been more tracks, from both bands. Live tracks from Dokken could have been live and not poor quality ones off of the soundboard. I will mention, that I knew you would have demo stuff, early career stuff the sound wouldn't be best and with it being on Deadline the sound quality would be poor. (This label, would not know awesome sound quality if it slapped them in the face first. They would still release something with below standard sound quality on it.)
Now onto Lost Lynch. I really like the tracks from the Boyz and Xciter. Never heard anything music wise from this part of George's career and it's enjoyable. Plus that some of Xciter's tracks eventually where rewritten and recorded by Dokken. The Dokken tracks here I liked are "Going Under", "Cry Again"(Awesome) and "When The Good Die Young". But the live tracks are of all songs I liked from the band. With the sound quality bad, it's really a waste having them on this record and takes away from the good stuff on here. Based on this, I'm sure George could have come up with better live recordings and more tracks that never saw the light of day. Plus let me add, where's "Back For The Attack" released on the "Dream Warriors" single for the movie A Nightmare On Elm Street 3. Here's a couple of other recordings George did that are missing and could have been included on disc one. In 1987 George played solos on two songs on Tony MacAlpine's Maximum Security release. They were "Tears Of Sahara" and "The Vision". The other was the first L.A. Blues Authority release in 1992. Where George plays guitar on "Rollin' And Tumblin'" and with Jeff Pilson do Vocals/Bass on "You Shook Me". All four of these tracks, are good and can't believe he left them off. (George's, Sacred Groove release "Will Play For Food" does have both "Tears Of Sahara" and Rollin' & Tumblin'" on it. THANK YOU George for not putting anything on here from The "Smoke This" period of Lynch Mob. Now I find it hard to believe that George had nothing to put on here from Lynch Mob when Oni Logan was the lead singer. Of the three Lynch Mob tracks, "Tooth And Nail(Live)" is my favorite. Both Candy Coated Sin and Invitatiion are good tracks, but wish the sound was better on them. Again, I'm sure George could have put more goodies on here from both eras with Oni and Robert. Found Stonehouse interesting, but lacked vocally and liked the music alot. Now "Dust", just can't get into the music. "Bruising Me" is all right but would have been better suited for Lita Ford to sing. Now the Microdot track has grown on me with repeated listen. I also like the Icarus Witch track and too bad their's not more from that session on here. The biggest disappointment for me, was that the Lynch/Pilson sessions did not garnish any goodies (so to speak) on this Anthology. When his US fans, know that the Japanese release had a bonus track on it called, "Gravity" and $23.99 (Amazon's price for the import) is still to expensive for one track. But Looks like, I'll have to purchase it to get the bonus track. Although the Bonus Tracks are all good on here, it really takes away from this release if your a old fan of his. Because you realize too much is missing from this and it's added purely as a filler. Let me concluded saying, I'm glad I purchased it and it's a nice addition to my collection. Could it be better, heck yeah and maybe on another label the sound quality would be better also.

I say this because the sound quality of many of the songs is below standards. I bought this cd recognizing that this could happen as many of the tracks are demos or recordings straight from the sound board at live shows. Still, there are some interesting tracks on here, particularly the old stuff from Exciter which turned out to be precursers to Dokken songs on the Breaking The Chains LP. I found those tracks particularly interesting as I then listened to the re-worked versions on Breaking The Chains. See for yourself (i.e. Paris Is Burning).
One of my personal all-time favorite Dokken tracks, Lost Behind The Wall, is included here as a live version but I can't help but suspect it was included more to embarrass Don than to showcase George's skills (call me cynical). I say this because Don sounds stoned as he sings this song-there are misques too frequent to count as he sings the lyrics incorrectly-such as in the chorus. Also, he slurs to the point where he is inaudible at times. The band itself does not sound very tight on this track which is a huge disappointment to me as this is one of my favorite Dokken tracks and done so well on Back For the Attack. I guess this track was proof of what George has said in several interviews over the years about how the band, in their glory days, played several sub-par shows thanks to their excesses with drugs and alcohol.
Still, I do not regret getting this cd simply for 1 stand out track-Cry Again. This was an instrumental that was recorded during the Back For The Attack sessions but didn't make the cut. I suspect it didn't make it because there was already the Mr. Scary instrumental (which everyone knows is fantastic) slated for the album. However, one listen to Cry Again and it will leave you begging George for more hard edged guitar instrumentals! Also, this is one of the few tracks on the album that sounds like it was professionally recorded, mixed, and edited.
Again, if you are not a hard core Dokken/Lynch fan, I would not recommend that you buy this album. However, if you are a collector of hard to find stuff, then you should definitely have this in your collection as it will provide you a great history lesson on the evolution of George "Mr. Scary" Lynch.....a simply awesome guitar player.
One last note-please send emails to Satriani and Vai and ask that they invite George to play as the guest guitarist on the next G3 tour...I'd put my money on him versus John Petrucci or Yngwie Malmsteen any day as I think this could be one Smokin G3 tour!!!! Imagine Lynch, Satch, and Vai doing the jam session together at the end of the show?!?! That would be awesome.

If you love the style of George Lynch and aren't just a Dokken fan, you will love this. It is not a Greatest Hits but a showcase of the legend's incredible wizardry from 1977 to the present. The talent surrounding George on these tracks is pretty impressive. You will not be disappointed!!!
