Special Edition Narnia Soundtrack - Wow. It blew me away! Submitted on: 2008-08-14 |

I knew that I would love the music - I've seen the movie inside out and upside down enough to know that! Haryy Gregson-Williams presents a beautiful score here, almost enriched with the Magic of Narnia itself. The second track, Evacuating London, is particularly lovely with some really nice vocalisations. The same goes for tracks The Wardrobe and From Western Woods to Beaversdam. There are also some wonderful epic tracks too, including what I think is the disk's best: The Battle. The Stone Table is eerie and Only the Beginning of the Adventure wraps the score up fabulously.
I even enjoyed the credits songs - when the lyrics are listened to carefully, one can feel a clear connection to the mystical land through the Wardrobe.
One qualm: I was disappointed in the packaging of the 'Special Edition' release. Upon arrival, both the centre parts of the plastic that holds the disk in place were smashed rendering the case useless anyway. Aside from that, there wasn't really anything particularly 'special' about it. The second disk has some extra stuff, but if you want to see behind the scenes stuff, you're better to buy the Special Edition of the DVD.
However, on the whole, I thought it was a fantastic Score, and it is still on my most played list on my iPod, and probably will be for a long time! |

Not just for children Submitted on: 2006-08-20 |

| This is wonderful story-telling, engaging without being cloying, a fantasy with realistic principles, not to mention relationships. The four Pevensie children are no strangers to anyone who has ever cared for or even known children, a true family, with its ups and downs, love and squabbles, falling and forgiveness, and we are invited to share their adventures in joining the fight led by a regal and courageous lion named Aslan, against a witch queen who has held the land in fear and cold for decades. All is informed by a lovely, haunting, and often stirring soundtrack, which is included individually, and which could quite possibly stand on its own without having accompanied a movie. Both are so well done that we become unaware that we are being ushered into a Narnian world, coursing through storybook adventure, a tribute to the author and also to all those whose hard work and dedication combined to make an experience and a world so winning and complete as to be well worth revisiting, as often as one wishes. |
