Mimi is Emancipated and Platinum Submitted on: 2009-10-03 |

At the time this album came out this was the best album she ever put out. I'd still put it at #2 behind her new album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel. Features the #1 songs We Belong Together and Don't Forget About Us. But there is so much on this 5 Platinum 3 time grammy winning album.

Mariah Gets a Second Chance Submitted on: 2009-09-12 |

By the time 2005 rolled around, Mariah Carey was considered a has-been. But as soon as "We Belong Together" topped the charts - and held on for 14 weeks - her Glitter days were long-forgotten. That single was a perfect combination of Mariah's big ballad past and hip-hop present, with its heavy bass line and a grand finale of her trademark belting. It also notably references old school slow jams from Babyface and Bobby Womack. That old school style is present throughout The Emancipation of Mimi, and it's the main ingredient in this enjoyable collection. Big Jim Wright assists on "I Wish You Knew" and "Circles," tracks that recall Diana Ross - with added runs and high notes, of course. "Mine Again" is a big-voiced plea for a second chance that ranks among Mariah's most soulful and believable songs. Most of the hip-hop numbers are infectious, like the summery "Say Somethin," with a classic Snoop verse, and "Get Your Number," featuring a chorus from JD (who oddly sounds just like Nelly). Ironically, her collaboration with Nelly himself, "To the Floor," is underwhelming and forgettable. Some of the songs do run together, but this is ultimately one of Mariah's finest and most consistent albums. Several years of unimpressive sales made this return to form that much sweeter. It was great to hear her finally sing with her full voice and look to the past for inspiration. 4 Stars.
"Don't Forget About Us" and an excellent hip-hop remix of "We Belong Together" are great additions to this re-release. |

| I am not a fan of Mariah, but when I heard the the first single from this cd, I thought let's go get this. I bought it, got it home and listen. This to me is her very best cd ever!!!! I mean Mariah would release a single that I liked, but nothing that would get me to purchase a cd. This is totaly different. I'm saying the lyrics, the music, and the collaborations, everything about this cd says good work. This is just a all round great cd. This is comming from someone who is not a fan of Mariah Carey. That is saying a lot!!!! |

Losing it. Submitted on: 2009-05-12 |

| Mariah Carey's Mimi album was so over-rated when it was released in 2005. We Belong Together just sounds like a carbon copy of all her better ballads. I used to be a huge Mariah fan from 1990-1997 - this woman had a killer voice and her songwriting was pretty darn flawless, but then she changed into this hip-hop/r&b knockoff - it was a terrible career move on her part. If you want classic Mariah then check out Music Box or Daydream, now that's a true artist. |
