I am so excited to find these guys Submitted on: 2009-11-21 |

the music seems to connect with solid-state 'magic' anchor points within this so-called reality; (if you have to ask, dont)
Meaning it is music from the source-honest direct and pure-seeming to bypass ego and commercial considerations-channeled?
And we have a tall, rather earnest looking person playing some odd wooden stringed instrument, probably recovered from a crashed UFO
a happy maniac on an Apple laptop in the background (doing the sound base, keyb. and samples) a guy playing hand drums who seems lost and unable to keep up with the tempo-let alone create
polyrthymic repeatable structures (ie -seems to play 'bongos' like a stoned beatnik-or syd barrett-not always in unison with the group-at least my first impression)
And last but not least not one, but TWO lovely lead singers, both with an aura of magic about them, one playing flute-the other a hurdy gurdy(?)
a dream come true
The little ive heard has a serious earnest-otherworld quality, to it-oh alright ill come out and say it:
gothic/mediaeval/acid/folk that send a chill down your spine as it is so REAL; But this is not a "goth" group-as in the superficial style of many of these "dark" "death" "sex" metal bands
This is more like 'earth' music-paggan/wicca
It seems they must know the subject-and not be mediaeval posers, as they know how to judiciously add modern electronica and make it sound so solid and perfect
They are a step beyond Mediaeval Baebes who seem to be academicly authentic-but too dry for me-nor are they like ENIGMA-poseurs
Plus the MB used a lot of energy being 'showy' dressing in sultry-over the top costumes-great when youre slim young things, BUT.... |

Take a Journey... Submitted on: 2008-03-23 |

| Faun creates music with a rich, deep soul. I just got this album in the mail today and i've been listening to it over and over. They combine mideval instruments and melodies with modern synth samples and production. The result is a luscious tapestry ranging from frenzied, tribal, and trance-like to serene, velveteen dreamscapes, sometimes all in the same song. I listen to an extremely wide variety of music and this is in a realm of it's own. If you like Q'ntal, Faith and the Muse, dead can dance, but sometimes wish that these had a little bit more rhythm and variety, then you'll probably like Renaisance a lot. |
