| I first heard Paul Thorn's music over a PA system before a show by Ray Wylie Hubbard. My wife asked me to find out from the sound tech who it was. so, I bought the dvd and cd, and have just about worn them both out in less than a week. I grew up in the same spirit crushing little towns he talks and sing about, and I was lucky enough to get out. Thorn's songs remind me of what might have been - living in a trailer park, with a cheating wife, and a crummy job and wanting to explode. But, he paints these word pictures in a way that is uplifting and funny, like the old blues greats - Lightnin' Hopkins, Muddy Waters, on down to ZZ Top, Jimmy Buffett, and the great Texas singer songwriters like Ray Wylie Hubbard and Billie Joe Shaver and, Willie Nelson. He's in the old singer songwriter story telling tradition, yet he's fresh and different. I'm telling all my friends about Paul Thorn. |
