If you like rare roots stuff, and specific themes, this album should satisfy. The music is pure and varied, ranging from '20s blues and jazz to '60's soul, via some of that infectious '40's - '50's swinging rhythm & blues. Some of the songs like, "Long John Blues (Dinah Washington) and "Don't Come Too Soon" (Julia Lee) are clever risque gems, while others like "Think Twice" (Jackie Wilson & LaVern Baker) are pure X rated. Even the legendary Zydeco hero, Uncle Bud, gets the dirty treatment, from Boozoo Chavis. Great R. & B. classics from Moose Jackson, Wynonie Harris and The Dominoes, will have you dancing and laughing, at the same time. I wouldn't call this album the "dirtiest of them Blues", for that you would have to include Lucille Bogan's "Shave 'Em Dry" or Bessie Smith's "I Need A Little Sugar In My Bowl". Once upon a time, I might've said "play this album when the kids aren't around". Now I'm suggesting, it probably doesn't matter, they've all heard it before, courtesy of today's rap artists. So play this album, let your inhibitions go mad, and enjoy a music that may never pass our way again.

| This is a nicley packaged collection of songs that would never get radio play due to their explict lyrics. For the most part the songs have suggestive lyrics, but some leave little for interpretation and use profanity. Some of the artists are well known such as Jackie Wilson and Dinah Washington for their mainstream jazz and pop while others are obscure. The cd comes with a fantastic booklet that includes the lyrics as well as pictures and information of the artists. Most of the songs are from the late 1940's or 1950's and are up tempo. If you like jazz and bebop with suggestive lyrics it would be a good addition to your collection. Just be warned that the content ranges from mild to wild and this certainly isn't for everyone. I am instantly reminded of a line from "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" ,"People come to my place to dance erotically." |

| If anyone believes that today's music and videos can be described as provocative or groundbreaking, try this out for spin. It's an excellent compilation of great tunes that combine raunchy and suggestive lyrics with great musicianship. Just goes to show that there was just as much sex going on during your grampa's time as there is now. Excellent for the collector who wants to broaden their music current collection. Cool packaging and great booklet included. |
