Caveat Emptor! Re-Recordings! Submitted on: 2009-05-07 |
| Buyer beware. This is one of those "re-recordings by the original artists" deals. If you're longing to hear some classic Coasters cuts, you won't be satisfied by the selections offered here, which are chiefly re-recordings made in 1978 by two of the original Coasters and a couple of also-ran, fourth-string scrubs. Reading the track listing, this CD seems like a gold mine, but it's more like the hole at the bottom of a North Carolina outhouse! Steer clear, Coasters fans! |

A great reissue Submitted on: 2006-11-05 |
| This CD is a reissue of the Highland/DeLuxe CD (one of the first Coasters CDs ever), this time distributed by Gusto (formerly King Records). The CD contains the 12 Leiber-Stoller produced recordings originally done for Date/Columbia in the late '60s and for King Records in the early '70s, with several classic recordings (D.W. Washburn, Soul Pad, Love Potion Number Nine, and others) - all featuring the original Coasters (with Carl Gardner, Billy Guy, Speedo Carroll and Will "Dub" Jones (the latter substituted by new bass singer Ronnie Bright on the early '70s recordings). Well that is not enough - the CD also contians eight "revival" recordings done direct for Gusto in the late '70s by a "phony" Coasters group including Billy Guy and Will Jones (who by then had left the original Coasters and soon would start a "competing" West Coast "Coasters". Get this high quality CD - but remember - the famous songs of the 1950s on this CD are the Guy-Jones fake Coasters (not the original hits). - Claus Röhnisch |
