Another great effort by Delerium! Submitted on: 2009-08-04 |

Since stumbling upon "Karma" many years ago, I have always made it a point to grab the new Delerium albums the day they're released. Over the years, the band has definitely evolved; some say it's for the worse, others the better. I doubt they'll ever return to their pre-"Semantic Spaces" days, as they seem to have found significant popularity with their current sound. Unlike many other reviewers, I'm fine with that.
"Karma", "Poem", "Chimera" and "Nuages du Monde" are still some of the most listenable albums you're ever likely to find; and, while all being very different, they're all still strikingly similar.
While Nuages is not nearly as consistent as its predecessors, it is worth owning simply for "Angelicus" -- possibly the finest song Delerium has ever done. There are other stand-out tracks (Tectonic Shift, Lost and Found and Extollere), but Angelicus sets a bar that no other song on the album surpasses. Still it's a very worthy effort by one of my favourite bands. And you know I'll buy their next album the day it's released, too...
If you get a chance, watch the video for Angelicus on YouTube... |

Nice but inconsistent Submitted on: 2009-06-25 |

I bought this CD because I heard "Tectonic Shift" on Pandora and liked it. I'm heavy into the steady electronica, right now. And "Angelicus" fit me, perfectly. I also like "Extollere" even though it's more dance-oriented and verbal; it had a nice ethereal quality. But I actively dislike "Self-Saboteur" and pass over it when it starts to play; it's the epitome of a lecture song and I cannot stand anything that tries to tell me about life in such a patronizing manner ("I'm my own worst enemy?" Puh-lease -- that's 1950's pop-psych). The rest of the music was nice enough and listenable...but considering how often I've only been able to get one or two listenable songs off an album, that's good. The build from one song to the next was fine -- except for the jolt from "Self-Saboteur" to "Tectonic Shift"; those two did NOT belong next to each other. Sound quality is top-notch.
I give it four stars for "Angelicus", "Extollere" and "Tectonic Shift." If "Self-Saboteur" hadn't been on the disk, I'd have given it a five. |

Best Delerium album since Poem Submitted on: 2008-08-19 |

| This album is my second favorite by Delerium, topped only by Poem. It is hugely listenable. After a stressful day at work, this CD has become a favorite to relax to. I'm not particularly fanatical about Delerium. I don't have especially strong ties to any one Delerium style, or album(s), but this is one of my favorites. |
